Meanwhile, a parliamentary committee in February raised the issue that only three per cent of students registered for SWAYAM courses have finished the programme since 2017, citing objections such as dated material, rigid teaching, and inadequate infrastructure.
The committe, chaired by Rajya Sabha MP Digvijaya Singh, also observed that education digital initiatives would generate merely lukewarm response in terms of participation unless Union education ministry actively helped facilitate placements, where feasible, or set up a platform linked to SWAYAM for bringing recruiters in contact with students.
The SWAYAM platform allows courses, taught in class from Class 9 to postgraduation, to be hosted such that anybody can access them anywhere and anytime. The courses are all interactive and free of cost for the learners.
