UPSC Civil Services Main Exam 2025: Important Exam Day Instructions
Before your examination, the Commission has issued thorough instructions, which all candidates must heed. The main instructions in the UPSC notice are listed below:
UPSC Civil Services: Entry and e-Admit Card Instructions
- Candidates must bring a printout of their e-Admit Card for all sessions and the original photo identity card (as detailed in the e-Admit Card).
- Candidates are instructed to take care of their e-Admit Card until the final result is announced.
- Entry to the exam venue will be closed at least 30 minutes before the commencement of the session (8.30 AM, 2 PM) and no candidate will be allowed entry past the to close of the gate.
- Candidates should be on time for identity verification and frisking.
- Candidates must also note that they will be allowed to appear only at the exam venue mentioned in their e-Admit Card.

The UPSC has made it abundantly clear that mobile phones, smart watches, pagers, electronic gadgets, storing devices, cameras, or any communication devices are strictly forbidden. Even possess in switch-off mode will result in disciplinary action including barring you from any further examinations.
- Only wristwatches are permitted without any smart features. Smart or special featured watches are barred.
- Candidates are advised not to bring any bags, books, or valuables and costly things with them on the date and time of the exam. The Commission will not make any facility for safekeeping.
- Candidates will be allowed to bring, only, the admit card, pen, pencil, identity proof and these photographs (if necessary), as mentioned in admit card.
- Carrying the water bottles will be allowed only if transparent. No eatable items or beverage is allowed inside the exam hall.
Special instances and responsibilities of candidates
When the photograph appearing on the admit card is not very well visible, the candidates must bring along a valid photo identity card and two identical recent passport size photographs with his/her name and dated.
- Candidates must ensure name, photographs and QR Code on the e-admit card are correct, any errors, discrepancies must be brought to the attention of the Commission.
- Candidates who have opted for their own scribe, should note that their scribe can enter the examination area only with a separate scribe e-admit card issued by UPSC.
- Candidates who have their name changed must produce a government issued photo identity card with the new name.
