This year, the Civil Services Examination is being conducted to fill 979 vacancies across esteemed services such as the Indian Administrative Service (IAS), Indian Foreign Service (IFS), and Indian Police Service (IPS), among others.
The Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) has published the schedule for the Civil Services Examination (CSE) Main 2025. The examinations would be held on August 22, 23, 24, 30, and 31, 2025.
The Mains examination 2025 will be conducted in two sessions daily - the forenoon session between 9 AM and 12 Noon, and the afternoon session between 2:30 PM and 5:30 PM.
UPSC Civil Services Main Exam 2025 Schedule: The Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) has released the dates of the CSE Mains 2025. The written examination, as per the announcement, will be held over five days from August 22 to August 31. The exam will be held with two three-hour papers every day.

The Commission generally issues e-admit cards two to three weeks before the commencement of the exam. Since the Mains will be conducted from August 22 to 31, aspirants can expect the UPSC CSE Mains admit card to be available in the second week of August 2025 on the official Commission website.
The exam pattern of CSE is divided into three phases - Preliminary, Mains, and Interview. The Prelims consist of two papers of 200 marks each, both objective-type. Paper II (CSAT) is a qualifying paper, and candidates need to secure at least 33%. Both papers are held in English and Hindi.
The main examination 2025 consists of two qualifying papers - Paper A (Indian Language) and Paper B (English), with 300 marks each. The papers for the merit list are Essay, General Studies I to IV, and two papers for an optional subject. Each one of these has 250 marks.
Applicants passing the written phase will be invited for the Interview/Personality Test, which is worth 275 marks. There are no minimum marks in the interview.
