As Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute launched in India, the United States remains a safe and opportunity-filled destination for international STEM students.
Senior education leaders have reiterated that even amidst ongoing global discussions about immigration and geopolitics, the United States remains a stable and opportunity-rich environment for international students pursuing graduate education in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM).
This sentiment was echoed at the America STEM Strong: Vision 2026 event, which formally launched Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) in India through InUni's university partnership platform. Jeroen Dekker, Director of Graduate Admissions at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, stated, "International students who meet the appropriate academic requirements at accredited institutions will continue to be welcomed and supported in the United States."
He stated that graduate students play a vital role in RPI's research ecosystem and make essential contributions to innovation and knowledge creation.
The event addressed student and family concerns stemming from global media reports about uncertainty in international mobility. Speakers emphasized that the U.S. maintains a clear policy framework that separates students' educational paths from broader immigration debates, along with consistent institutional support for student visas, campus safety, and international research collaborations.
Blerina Polovina, Associate Vice President for International Student Recruitment and Partnerships at InUni Global, noted that there is often a disconnect between perception and reality. She stated that students admitted to accredited U.S. institutions and structured programs consistently achieve strong academic and career outcomes.
According to Polovina, the strength of U.S. graduate education lies in its globally ranked STEM universities, significant research funding, and robust industry connections. She added that graduate students in the U.S. are not only learners but also active contributors in diverse fields such as engineering, computing, science, architecture, and management.
