Acharya Prafulla Chandra College was founded on August 16, 1960, under a dispersal program with joint support from the state and central government. The late Haripada Biswas was the founder and secretary of this college. It was originally called New Barrackpore College. Acharya Prafulla Chandra Roy, for whom the college is now named, was a great educator with a vision. It was he who wanted universal literacy; speaks of “basic education” and “utilitarian education”; supported the concept of women's empowerment; He wanted to promote the development of national industry by encouraging the entrepreneurial spirit of educated youth. In the spirit of Acharya Prafulla Chandra Roy, the College has endeavored since its inception to spread the ideals of this great man and the motto exemplifies this; "Service, Knowledge, Sacrifice". 

Accreditations and Ranking:

The Institution is affiliated with the West Bengal State University with aid, assistance, and grants from the Govt. of West Bengal and the University Grants Commission (UGC), New Delhi. The college is currently in its second cycle of accreditation from NAAC with a C.G.P.A. of 3.23. The college is shortly going to apply for reaccreditation in 3rd cycle.

Library: 

APC The College's Central Library was formed with the founding of the College in 1960, taking into account the views of Dr.SR Ranganathan (1892-1972), the father of librarianship in India. The main purpose of the library is to disseminate information to the faculty, researchers, students, faculty, and non-teaching staff of this university. The library has an extensive collection of textbooks, encyclopedias, magazines, magazines, CDs, newspapers, etc. making various types of information available to its users. 

Sports: 

From winning an athletic scholarship to pursuing a professional sports career, there are many benefits to being a collegiate-level athlete. Our university shows great interest in recognizing and supporting talented students in sports.

Laboratories:

All faculties that have experimental studies in their program have equipped modern laboratories. These include the departments of chemistry, computer science, physics, statistics, mathematics, electronics, anthropology, botany, food and nutrition, and zoology. The teachers and laboratory assistants of the various departments attach great importance to the proper maintenance and proper operation of these laboratories. The university has 22 of these in many laboratories assigned to different departments. In order to improve the teaching and research facilities, we have received Rs. 79.5 Lac as part of the FIST DST program, which led to a significant improvement in laboratory infrastructure in postgraduate departments. 

Seminar room: 

The college has an air-conditioned seminar room and a separate smart room next to the staff room on the second floor of the main building with modern technical equipment. The room is often used for debates, seminars, board meetings, social events, etc. 

Placement: 

College Admissions Committee. However, it must be said that there are very few internship positions on the campus of these universities. Recently, during a job fair organized by IQST in Science City, Kolkata, many of our students were recruited by various companies in the banking sector. Several Computer Science Faculty students are working as software professionals in the private sector such as WIPRO, CTS, and TCS, some are also working in government. Sectors like banks, WBSEDCL, etc.
