Established in 1932 as the first public health school in the Southeast Asia region, the All India Institute of Hygiene & Public Health was a pioneering institute of its kind for teaching, training, and research in various disciplines of public health and related sciences for public health capacity building. Teaching, training, and research at AIIH& PH are supported solely by its field laboratories, namely Municipal Health Centre, Chetla and Rural Health Directorate, and Training Center, Singur. The Institute, in cooperation with state governments, central ministries, international agencies, etc., regularly organizes a series of short courses/training programs for different categories and groups of health workers.

Library:

The library of the AIIH&PH Institute is one of the few reference libraries for public health sciences. The collection includes over 30,086 books, 107 subscription journals, 25 free journals, and 9,573 articles/reports/yearbooks/research papers, etc. The library also offers reprographic services to its users. The institute's library was funded by the D.G.H.S. and recognized as a regional medical library of the Eastern Region. and the Department of Health and Family Welfare to promote library hygiene and meet the needs of faculty/staff and students.

Faculty:

All India Institute of Hygiene & Public Health Kolkata employs 39 teachers in 11 academic departments. Of these, 11 are department heads, the rest are professors. They do their best to impart the best knowledge to future medical professionals. University staff works hard to instill the best educational values in students and future health professionals. 

All faculty members are among the most qualified nutritionists and have also conducted and participated in many types of research.
