Alphonsa College, Pala, Kottayam District is one of the pioneering higher education institutions for women in the state of Kerala. She upholds the sacred memory of St. Alphonsa, a contemplative mystic whose sacred life of love and service has always been a source of inspiration and strength to those around her. She was beatified by His Holiness Pope John Paul II during his visit to India in 1986. Saint Alfonso was ordained by His Holiness Pope Benedict XVI on October 12, 2008. canonized. She is the first Indian woman to be canonized by the Catholic Church. Founded in 1964 as a junior college with 400 students and 13 teachers, Alphonsa College has now been granted First Class Women's College status.

In July 1976 the current library building was dedicated by the late Mar Sebastian Vayalil, our Founding Patron and first Bishop of Pala. For many years, the library served to ensure equal opportunities and access to information for all members of the campus. Integrated Library Management System – KOHA software helps organize and manage library activities.
