Alphonsa College, Pala, Kottayam District is one of the pioneering higher education institutions for women in the state of Kerala. She upholds the sacred memory of St. Alphonsa, a contemplative mystic whose sacred life of love and service has always been a source of inspiration and strength to those around her. She was beatified by His Holiness Pope John Paul II during his visit to India in 1986. Saint Alfonso was ordained by His Holiness Pope Benedict XVI on October 12, 2008. canonized. She is the first Indian woman to be canonized by the Catholic Church. Founded in 1964 as a junior college with 400 students and 13 teachers, Alphonsa College has now been granted First Class Women's College status.

College is a monument to the vision and pioneering leadership of Mar. Sebastian Vayalil, the first bishop of the Diocese of Pala. Although the area was advanced in many ways, it lacked educational institutions for women. Convinced that the full advancement of society is only possible through the education of women, His Excellency took the audacity to set up a women's boarding school in Pala with the support of some eminent village chiefs. The College is administered by the Catholic Diocese of Pala. The founder and patron of the institution were His Excellency the deceased. Mar Sebastian Vayalil. His Excellency Mar Joseph Pallikkapparambil, Bishop Emeritus of Pala, was Patron of the College from 1981 to 2004.

Founded in 1964, the Alphonsa College Library is as old as the college itself. Reverend Sr. Mary Grace BA BLISC (1965-1990) was appointed the College's first Librarian in 1965. In July 1976 the current library building was dedicated by the late Mar Sebastian Vayalil, our Founding Patron and first Bishop of Pala. For many years, the library served to ensure equal opportunities and access to information for all members of the campus. Integrated Library Management System – KOHA software helps organize and manage library activities.

The College Library encourages and encourages lifelong learning and personal development by providing research and learning opportunities. It has a great collection of textbooks, encyclopedias, magazines, periodicals, encyclopedias, dictionaries, and a wide range of electronic resources. Hostels:

Students who do not live with their parents should normally live in the following halls of residence. However, they can stay with approved legal guardians. The student submits the complete information about his place of residence in the prescribed form to the university secretariat.
