In 1952 Agurchand Manmull Jain College was established by the magnanimity and munificence of Padma Shri Mohanmullji Chordia through the Sri. S. S. Jain Educational Society, at the Inspiration of her Holiness Shri. Sayar Kanwarji Maharaj. Shri. Sri Prakasa, the then Governor of Madras Presidency, performed the auspicious task of the inauguration on the 25th of June 1952 at the Jain Boarding Home premises in Madley Road, T. Nagar, Chennai. The College got shifted to its new campus in Meenambakkam in 1954. That was indeed a very unique occasion in which two great educationalists, the late Dr. S. Radhakrishnan (the then Vice-President of India) and late Dr. A. Lakshmanaswami Mudaliar the then Vice-Chancellor of the University of Madras graced their presence. The former laid the foundation stone and the latter presided over the function. The College celebrated its Silver Jubilee in 1977 the Golden Jubilee in 2002 and the Diamond Jubilee in June 2012. The College which started as a college for men was upgraded into a Co-educational institution in 2003. Today it is a frontline top-ranking Research and Post Graduate institution. Working in two Shifts, in Shift - I there are three Research Departments – Physics, Mathematics, and Economics and Post Graduate Courses in Commerce, Chemistry, Physics, Economics, and Mathematics and basic Graduate courses in eight major fields of study. Shift – II offers twenty-four undergraduate courses and four postgraduate courses.

Residential Accommodations:
Boys' Hostel:

A.M. Jain College Boys Hostel is located inside the college campus. The hostel was recently renovated to provide a modern home-away-from-home facility. It has a 3-in-1 room for accommodating 150 students. The hostel has an indoor games facility, a recreation hall, and a reading hall. Safety and security are the prime concerns of the hostel.

Girls' hostel:

The A.M. Jain College Women’s hostel is a very safe and secure accommodation and has been in service since June 2015. The two-storied building accommodates around 50 students in air-conditioned and non-air-conditioned 3-in-1 rooms. Situated inside the college campus, girls feel comfortable and safe walking to their classrooms.

Classrooms:

Classrooms are the portals of extensive learning. Great minds have benefitted from this repository of knowledge through wonderful lectures. The college houses four blocks: Main Block, Annex Block, Gyan Bhawan Block, Library Block, and Kumbhat Block. Classrooms in these blocks are well-ventilated and neatly furnished to give a comfortable learning experience. Overhead Projectors are installed in some classrooms to explore and experience learning through digital technology.

Library:

The college has two state-of-the-art digital libraries for the use of students, faculty members, and research scholars. The Central Library which provides the E-Library facility is situated on the ground floor of the Main block and is accessible for the aided stream. The library for the Shift II students and faculty is situated on the 2nd floor of the Main block. Besides the large collection of books, the libraries subscribe to many national and international journals. E-Resources from INFLIBNET, NLIST, and OPAC (Online Public Access Catalogue) are also provided. Faculty members benefit from the advantage of using the internet facility in the library.

Computer Science Lab:

Computers and software have begun to revolutionize learning. To prepare our students to be fully equipped to face the rapidly growing and most competitive of fields, we have seven fully air-conditioned computer laboratories with 420 computers updated with the latest software in addition to sufficient printers and copiers. Two labs are equipped with Internet, connected to three high-end servers. Overhead projectors are installed in all the labs to facilitate lectures and presentations. A strong and efficient power backup system ensures the uninterrupted functioning of the labs.

Health Center:

The A.M.Jain Health Centre is located in the Administrative Block of the A.M.Jain School. The center operates from 8.30 a.m. to 6.30 p.m. on all working days. Consultation is free of cost. This facility is for the benefit of all staff and students of A.M.Jain College(Shift I & Shift II), A.M.Jain School, A.M.Jain Balavatika, and Mohanmullji Chordia Industrial Training Centre.

Conference Hall:

The perfect inclusion to the professional infrastructure of the college is the Conference Hall. Academic and administrative meetings are frequently held here.

Seminar Hall:

A perfectly designed state-of-the-art seminar hall with a seating capacity of 135 provides the perfect ambiance for workshops, symposiums, and research paper presentations.

Sports Facilities:

Cricket:

The college management has well understood the importance of sports and the need for a perfect playground. The college has five cricket pitches of which two are as per TNCA standards, with a pavilion capacity of 750.

Volley Ball:

There is also the Volleyball Court, Football ground, Hockey field, Handball Court, and four Tennis Courts. Long Jump and High Jump pits are also there.

Indoor Stadium:

Sports are perfect for uniting, strengthening, and disciplining students. The Indoor Stadium facilities encourage greater participation of students, thereby leading to a healthier, happier, and more cohesive student community. The overall area of the stadium is 11250 sq. ft. Play in the area is 18m x 35m.

Scholarships

The following are the scholarships that students can avail of:
•Government Scholarship for SC & ST students
•Government Scholarship for minority (Jain, Muslim, Christian, Parsi, Sikh, Buddhist) students.
•Management Scholarship and fee concession for economically poor and academically good students.
•To be eligible for any scholarship, a student must have a minimum of 90 percent attendance and good and consistent academic performance. Application forms for these scholarships and fee concessions can be had from the College Office.
•For availing of community scholarships, students from the eligible communities are advised to submit to the College Office their community and income certificates.
