The year was 1921 when the Swadeshi Movement was at its peak. A young Durgabai (Durga) traveled to Rajamundry to attend her cousin’s marriage. A meeting with Mahatma Gandhi lit a fire and determination in the 12-year-old Durga’s heart. She burned her party frocks, dropped out of school, and joined the independence movement. Her action was no childish tantrum. It was an inspired act of conviction – of serving her motherland and one that stayed with her throughout her life. Durgabai began learning Hindi and started wearing only Khadi, the handspun cotton cloth favored by Mahatma Gandhi.
AMS Durgabai Deshmukh General Hospital and Research Centre (AMS-DDGHRC) is functioning considering the fact that the final sixty-five years withinside the coronary heart of Chennai City. It has empowered thousands of women to excel in the field of medicine and allied activities, through their various medical courses and live training provided within their hospital. They conduct GNM as full-time for 3.5 years and MLT as a diploma certification course of 6 months.

BLOOD BANK :
A modern blood bank with all advanced equipment is provided for the collection and distribution of blood for needy patients of the hospital. The blood financial institution is identified through the Directorate of Drug Control, Govt. of A.P., Voluntary blood donation from Healthy students of the College of Physiotherapy and other staff members is done periodically and in times of need. Screening tests for AIDS and Hepatitis - B are available.
MISCELLANEOUS FACILITIES :
LIBRARY: Spacious well ventilated, air-cooled Library with comfortable seating arrangement with a large collection of Medical textbooks, reference books and Medical Journals (Indian and International) in all specialities provided.
Pathological Laboratory:
Advanced tests in the field of Microbiology, Pathology and Biochemistry are undertaken with modern equipment like auto analyzers, Semi analyzers, automatic cell counters, automatic coagulation meters, urine analyzers etc., with precision and accuracy. Quality certification of the laboratory is done by Christian Medical College, Vellore under Quality Assurance Programme.
DIAGNOSTIC FACILITIES:
Diagnostic facilities offered by the hospital can be divided into two areas namely 1. Radiology and Imageology
2. Pathological Laboratory.
INPATIENT FACILITIES:
1. General wards for men and women.
2. Sharing rooms for ladies and men and
3. 10 special rooms with all deluxe facilities available for all the specialities Paediatric ward and Neonatology
4. Obstetrics and Gynaecology ward
Highly sophisticated facilities and experienced medical officers are available around the clock in all these wards.
NEUROSURGERY :
Facilities for outpatient and inpatient Neurosurgical treatment are available. Head Injury Cases and acute Spinal Injury cases with Neurological problems are attended to promptly.
CARDIOLOGY :
The cardiology department is provided with a special Cardiac Catheterization laboratory. This laboratory has online digital imaging along with a writing and cine angio facility, quantitative coronary angiography, and diagnostic catheterization including coronary angiography, peripheral RHC and LHC.
