ADAC&RI Infrastructure and Facilities
ADAC&RI Centre of Excellence in Sustaining Soil Health
Centre of Excellence (COE) in sustaining Soil Health has been established during 2016-18 under the NADP program of the Government of Tamil Nadu for testing soils farmers and offering high-class analytical instrumentation and research services to researchers for their project works focussed on soil health sustenance. Scientists and Scholars involved in basic and applied research addressing complicated issues related to soil health utilize the facilities of this center. Sophisticated instrumentation facilities viz., GC-MS, LC-MS, MALDI-TOF, FT-IR, UV-Vis Spectrometers, and other important lab equipment are installed in this Centre. Over support is rendered in this center for research works covering soil quality maintenance by balancing fertilization, improving the capacity of soil to function within ecosystem boundaries, sustaining biological productivity, and maintaining environmental quality. Ultimately this center aims to promote research that improves normal and salt-affected soils to reach the ability to sustain crop productivity. The total cost of building and instrumentation infrastructure of this center was Rs. 470 Lakhs. Besides analytical services, this center offers periodical training (2-day training) to Scientists/ scholars on analytical instrumentation techniques on the following titles: Chromatographic instrumentation techniques of HPLC and GCMass spectrometric instrumentation techniques of GC-MS, LC-MS, and MALDI-TOF
ADAC&RI Major activities
Testing soil, plant, manure, and irrigation water samples brought by farmers, entrepreneurs, and researchersQuantification of extractable organic molecules/ pesticide residues using LC-MS/MS techniques.Quantification of volatile compounds in samples by performing GC-MS/MS analysis identification of diverse microbial communities by MALDI – TOF analyzerDissemination of technologies in sustaining soil health in saline/sodic soilOffering training to researchers on analytical instrumentation techniques
ADAC&RI Centre for Excellence: Farm Women Knowledge Centre
As women's contribution to agriculture is immense, to enhance the knowledge of farm women in scientific technologies in critical areas of agriculture and horticulture, the “Farm Women Knowledge Centre” is established at AnbilDharmalingam Agricultural College & Research Institute, Tiruchirappalli with the funding of Government of Tamil Nadu under NADP (G.O.MS.No.06 dated 04.01.2016 of Agricultural Production Commissioner and Secretary to Government, Agriculture Department, Government of Tamil Nadu, Chennai – 9). This center brings in an amalgamation of varied technologies developed in the University for the betterment of farm women by imparting regular training/ demonstrations.
ADAC&RI Facilities in the Centre
The Centre will establish a Centralized instrumentation facility with the following high-end equipment. FT-IR Photometer Water purifier system (Millipore) Open top chambers CLPP-Microbial Identification System Gas chromatograph coupled with spectrometer (GC-MS) Deep freezer UV –visible double beam spectrophotometer Refrigerated centrifuge Pressure plate apparatus Wet sieve and dry sieve for soil aggregate analysis Soil core sampling kit
ADAC&RI Current Research Activities
I am fixing the optimum dose of glyphosate plus AM fungi to prevent phytotoxicity symptoms in both weeds and plants. Assessment of the adverse role of AM fungi when combined with glyphosate in boosting the availability of glyphosate residues that can affect plant growth.Effect of overdoses of glyphosate on crop growth and microorganisms like AM fungi, which reside in soil and roots of the host plant.Recording the effect of the application of glyphosate on seed germination and residue accumulation in soil and economic parts of cropsEstimation of growth-promoting substances in wood vinegarEvaluation of rapid enzyme inhibition test for pesticides detection and validation by spectrophotometer and GC/MSAccounting carbon sequestering potential of soils managed by effective methods of tillage and application of organic inputsEstimation of growth hormones involved in seed germination.
