Courses Offered

Asian College Of Journalism courses is offered at various levels like Postgraduate Degree i.e Broadcast Journalism And New Media, Radio Journalism, Television Journalism, and many more. Residential Accommodations:

Accommodation for students in the program on room sharing basis is available on the college campus or in the Residential Annexe of the college which is within easy distance in Kasturba Nagar adjacent to the MRTS station.

1. The college canteen provides all meals/snacks/beverages.
2. The campus is wi-fi enabled. Students are required to subscribe to the internet usage policy set by the college.
3. The campus has a shuttle and a volleyball court outdoors and a table tennis court indoors.
4. The accommodation is self-contained with amenities that include washing machines, microwave ovens, refrigerators, water dispensers, and television sets.
5. The accommodation is provided with 24-hour security and CCTV.
6. Smoking, consumption of alcohol, chewing pan, and drug abuse are strictly forbidden anywhere on or in the vicinity of the campus.
7. The campus is a litter-free zone.
8. A medical consultant attached to a nearby hospital will be available on the college campus every Friday between 5.30 pm and 6.30 pm.

Auditorium:

One of the iconic addition to the institution's infrastructure is the M. S. Subbulakshmi Auditorium. Unique among the city's concert venues, the 342-seater auditorium is an acoustically designed mic-free venue. The design allows no echo and delayed reflection of sound. The reflectors in the ceiling and a bandshell help performers listen to themselves, even when the sound is pushed to the back of the space. In addition, concrete panels on the side and the back walls diffuse the sound in every direction, making the microphone-less natural sound heard throughout the auditorium without any artificial amplification.

Admission

Admission to the program is through a three-stage process :
1. Application – applications are screened and successful candidates are invited to take a test
2. Test – of English, General Knowledge, and an Essay
3. Interview – successful candidates are invited for an interview in Chennai

Scholarships

The SAF-Madanjeet Singh scholarship for the one-year postgraduate course at the Asian College of Journalism covers eight countries, viz: Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, Maldives, Nepal, Pakistan, and Sri Lanka. Candidates are required to have cleared an undergraduate course in any discipline. Equivalent courses in different SAARC countries are also considered on a case-by-case basis.

The scholarship covers:

(a) Tuition Fees
(b) Economy air travel from the scholar's place of residence within SAARC to Chennai and back
(c) Accommodation costs, on a room-sharing basis, for the duration of the course in Chennai
(d) Food expenses covering breakfast, lunch, and dinner at the ACJ canteen
(e) A nominal amount towards pocket expenses

Placements

The College counsels students on placements and assists them by arranging campus interviews (both online and offline) at the end of the academic year. ACJ is the preferred destination for media organizations in search of talented and capable recruits and has been registering excellent placements for many years. The College achieved 100 percent placement for the academic year 2021-22, with all the students getting confirmed job offers within five days of the placement process. The major media houses that recruited from ACJ this year include Indian Express, Times Now, ETNow, Mirror Now, CNN-News 18, CNBC TV 18, Money Control, Firstpost, The New Indian Express, Business Standard, WION, Zee News, Times of India, Sportstar and India Today group. ACJ graduates are currently working in news organizations throughout India and abroad. The media employers of the previous batches of ACJ graduates include. The Hindu, Network18, CNBC TV18, The Times of India, The Economic Times, India Today (TV), India Today (Weekly), Outlook (Money), Reuters, Times Now, Bloomberg / Quint, Times Internet, IB Times, Zee News, WION TV, DNA, The Indian Express, The New Indian Express, SportStar, Scroll, Deccan Chronicle, V.C. Circle.

Controversies:

Sadanand Menon, a well-known art critic and faculty member at the Asian College of Journalism was embroiled in a sexual allegation charge raised by a former student of his at the ACJ. Eventually, several of his students and associates opened up about the repeatedly predatory ways in which he had behaved with women. Students of the 2018 batch at the ACJ decried the college's deep-seated apathy towards sexual harassment cases, with the chairman of the college claiming that they were targeted because they were liberal. Sadanand Menon was subsequently forced to step down as a faculty member at the ACJ
