Baba Bhairabananda Mahavidyalaya was Set up in 1976 on the foot of the Varunabanta hill of Chandikhole which is inhabited predominantly by rural, tribal, and backward populations in the northeastern part of the undivided Cuttack district of Odisha. The Institution was named so in order to commemorate the contribution and goodwill of Baba BhairabanandaBrahmachari.This institution started functioning on 12.08.1976 after being formally inaugurated by Padmabhushan Dr. Radhanath Rath, an eminent journalist and a great son of Orissa. Initially, it worked in the society house of the Chandikhole Bazar but, the next year the college was shifted to its own building, where it runs at present.

Admission to the college hostel is usually made in the beginning of the session. Seats are allotted to the students on the basis of merit and conduct. Boarders wishing to remain in the hostel during the vacation for study must obtain special permission from the principal to do so.
