Balagarh Bijoy Krishna Mahavidyalaya is incepted as the undergraduate Degree College and the only higher learning institute in and around Balagarh Block situated at the east fringe of Hooghly District under the state of West Bengal. The institute was established in the year 1985 and is affiliated with the University of Burdwan, W.B. It is named after the revered Late Bijoy Krishna Modak, the noted freedom fighter, renowned educationist, and lifelong social activist. Indeed, the late Bijoy Krishna Modak is the founding father of the College. The College is accredited by NAAC in the year 2007 and graded C++. Further, the college is re-accredited by NAAC in the year 2016 and graded ‘C’ (very few points short of the grade). But, the college has improved a lot in the overall standard of infrastructure in the years 2017 and 2018. IT-enabled services, a sense of students’ caring environment, the development of health and hygiene, the introduction of modern aids in teaching and learning, and the opening of new courses have uplifted the standard of college in recent years. In this changing atmosphere, the different wings of the Government of West Bengal have assured us to take the initiative for the development of this college in the upcoming years.

Infrastructure and Facilities

Library:

Students can collect books from the library upon submission of the Library Card. For home use, general course students may borrow two books at a time against the borrower's card and retain them for a fortnight. Honors students are permitted to borrow three books at a time. Students failing to return books within the permissible period are fined Re.1 for each day's delay and no book will further be issued to them without the Principal's permission. Books and magazines may also be borrowed on submission of a specific form for use in the Reading Room in leisure time. But such books or magazines must on no account be taken out of the Reading Room. Books are treated as property of the college and any damage to it will be treated as a grievous offence and as such the student would have to pay the full price of the book. Students can also borrow books from the “Book Bank” by depositing money. The college library is a silent zone. Reading Room of the Library is a place of study and its sanctity should be duly observed.

Classroom:

The Virtual Classroom facility is meant to bridge the physical distance between teachers and students who are at different physical locations. The Virtual Classroom facility which has been christened Sir Ashutosh’s Memorial Classroom is capable of transmitting and receiving interactive high-definition video classes through the Internet. This room is also equipped with campus LAN and Wi-Fi facilities. 

Sports:

The College has a large playground inside the college campus where the students play games like football, volleyball, cricket, etc. The college also possesses an indoor gaming facility where students play carom, table tennis, etc

Computer lab:

The College computers are available to the students studying Computer Application Courses under a B.Sc in Mathematics/ Physics with computer application for doing classwork and practicals under the guidance and supervision of the concerned teachers.

Medical Facilities:

The college is a member of the Student’s Heath Home and as such the students can access medical facilities. However, the college tries to organize a Heath Camp for its students every year.
