Established in 1971 as a small mechanical workshop, the institute began operations in 1977 as an NVCT-accredited technical training center. Today it is a training center for more than 600 young people with 7 CNVT courses and 2 advanced courses. It is the result of the foresight of the CST Brethren who lead this organization and the work of God's hands and blessings of all associated with the organization. Mookkannur Balanagar ITI is still able to maintain its reputation in India and abroad due to its technological excellence over the past 30 years. Today under the direction of Fr. Brother Tomy Njarakkulam CST and Rev.Br.Simon Chellokaran CST, the association is growing. In addition to girls and boys from the area, students from other districts of Kerala also come to study here.

Balanagar Technical Institute offers Diesel Mechanic Engineering, Draughtsman (Civil) Engineering, Refrigeration Engineering, Electrician Engineering, and Mechanic Motor Vehicle Engineering.

The cell also coordinates special training programs in cooperation with international companies for teachers and students.
