Bangabasi College, established in 1887, is an Undergraduate college. An educational institution of national importance, Bangabasi College had its genesis in the prophetic vision and spirit of sacrificial dedication of the Late Acharya Girish Chandra Bose. Founded under private management in 1887, it had as its guiding inspiration the genius of Pandit Ishwar Chandra Vidyasagar. The aim of the institution was twofold: first, to cater to the growing demand for higher education, and second, to nurture the spirit of nationalism in the minds of young learners under the colonial yoke. At the same time, it marked an indirect protest challenging the narrow educational policy of the Hunter Commission.

Infrastructure and Facilities

Library:

The library is not only a storehouse of knowledge but also a center of dissemination of the same. Though Bangabasi College was established in the year 1887, the College Library started functioning in the year 1980. As is well known, College Library is primarily meant for the store of “ Books” – B (Built-in) O (Orderly) O ( Organized) K(Knowledge).

Auditorium:

A spacious state-of-art auditorium (91' ft. X 51'3"ft.) "Prasant Kumar Bose Memorial Hall", fully air-conditioned, dedicated to the memory of late Principal Acharya P.K.Bose has been set up at the entire basement area of the new building. The hall is well-equipped with high-end audio & lighting and projection equipment and can accommodate around 500 viewers at a time. The College organizes different seminars/symposiums of different departments in the auditorium. Also, the annual cultural program 'Expression', the commencement of the spring festival 'Basanta Utsav', and 'Freshers' Welcome' etc organized by the students' union is held in the auditorium. The Annual General Body meeting of the Bangabasi College Alumni Association is held in the auditorium. The college authority also let out the auditorium for the coveters of different non-profit organizations.

Canteen:

"Baithak-N-Khana", the Canteen on the ground floor of the College, which has been recently renovated for the students, faculty members, and staff, serves healthy food and meals at subsidized rates. It has been upgraded to maintain better hygienic standards and is well equipped to cope with the mid-beak rush, efficiently with additional space assigned recently.

Play Ground:

Bangabasi College takes immense pride to possess a sports ground at the renowned greens of Kolkata Maidan which it shares with Asutosh College. The tent of Bangabasi College Athletic Club is located just beside Howrah Union Club, overlooking Eden Gardens. Besides the Annual Sports Meet, Football and Cricket tournaments are held here periodically along with inter-departmental matches.

Gym:

The college houses a fully equipped gymnasium for the fitness activities of the students. Under the supervision of the instructor, students can practice physical training with payment of a minimum amount of membership fees. The multigym, dumbbells, cycling, bench press, and weight training facilitate cardiovascular and abdominal exercises. There is also provision for a shower and changing room.
