Barkatullah University, originally known as Bhopal University, was founded in the year 1970 in Madhya Pradesh's capital. The university was later changed to Barkatullah Vishwavidyalaya in 1988, to honour the famed independent activist Professor. Barkatullah, who was born in Bhopal. The NAAC 2015 graded the school with a grade of B.

The university grants admission to B.E and integrated B.Tech programs according to the results in the university level entry.

Admission to BA, LL.B & B.Pharm courses is based on merit.
