Barnagar College, Sorbhog is one of the leading colleges in the Barpeta (Assam) region. It is affiliated to Gauhati University. It is the third oldest college in the region. It was established on 3rd September 1962 and was taken under the deficit subsidy scheme by the government in December 1972. from Assam. It joined the U.G.C.  2(f) in 1969. In 2004, the college was awarded Grade B accreditation by  NAAC (National Assessment and Accreditation Council), Bangalore. It educated a large number of students from a large, mainly populated area. for socially and economically backward population groups. The university celebrated its silver jubilee amidst pomp and joy in  1988 and 50 years of its glorious existence in  2012. The university is located in a pollution-free, idyllic setting near  Highway No. 31 and is easily accessible by road and rail. The campus has 30 large plots of land.
