It has been established that modern-day Dantan is the contracted region of the ancient kingdom of Dandabhukti dating from the 6th century AD. The archaeological findings of the Moghalmari Buddhist Monastery, the largest of its kind in West Bengal, a few ancient settlement sites, and numerous artifacts point to its rich past spanning over 600 years (6th-12th century AD). But because of its strategic position, the area turned into a frequent battleground afterward and the entire region sank into deprivation and degradation with the establishment of British rule. Modern-day Dantan started to rise after the Independence, and the establishment of Bhatter College was a part of that process.

Infrastructure and Facilities

Boys Hostel:

The college has a Hostel, one for the boys (Sukanta Chhatrabas) (30 seats). The hostels are situated within the college campus and managed by the Hostel Sub-Committee. Admission is made through a notification and is strictly based on the distance from the student’s residence. Priorities are given to Scheduled Caste, Scheduled Tribes, OBC, and Physically Handicapped students. A new hostel for the boys is under construction.

Girls Hostel:

The college has two separate Hostels, one for the girls (Sarada Bhavan) (40 seats). The hostels are situated within the college campus and managed by the Hostel Sub-Committee. Admission is made through a notification and is strictly based on the distance from the student’s residence. Priorities are given to Scheduled Caste, Scheduled Tribes, OBC, and Physically Handicapped students. A new hostel for the boys is under construction.

Computer Centre:

The college has a computer center where students get three months’ compulsory certificate course in computer operation.

Seminar Hall:

A spacious state-of-the-art Seminar Hall has been set up for holding seminars, conferences, workshops, and training.

Language Laboratory:

The college has established one Language Laboratory for developing better communication skills of students. The Career Counselling Cell in collaboration with the Computer Centre and Language Laboratory groom the students for various jobs.

Playground:

The College has a big playground (15,402 sq mts) for students to play football, cricket, Khokho, and other games.

Gym:

The college has a good gymnasium with modern devices and instruments and training facilities.
