Thirty-four years ago, a few stalwarts in the public domain, transformed their spirited vision and dream into reality in the shape of the Bhilai Institute of Technology in the loving memory of Seth Balkrishan, a renowned philanthropist of the region. Fired with the zeal of promoting the cause of technical education, the college was set up at Durg under the benign auspices of the Bhilai Institute of Technology Trust in 1986. BIT, set up as the first self-financed Engineering College in the erstwhile Madhya Pradesh has now been shaped as one of the most sought-after professional institutes in the central region. BIT is standing tall and steadfast in its commitment to providing qualitative education for its students.

The courses offered by BIT are approved by All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE). The Institute is affiliated to Chhattisgarh Swami Vivekananda Technical University (CSVTU) and brings laurels to the University by providing the best results in the University examinations and Research and Development activities. BIT has produced the maximum number of Ph.D. holders in the State leaving other professional colleges far behind. In a good number of occasions, the faculty members of BIT have presented research papers in various countries across the globe. BIT is renowned for its environment-friendly Campus with well-equipped infrastructure, outstanding faculty with rich experience, valuable research and academic programs, and dedicated staff.
Bhilai Institute of Technology is affiliated with CSVTU, Bhilai and approved by AICTE, NAAC, ISO, and NIRF.
Bhilai Institute Of Technology courses are offered at various levels like, Undergraduate Degree i.e. Bachelor of Technology (B.Tech.) in Electrical Engineering, Bachelor of Technology (B.Tech.) CSE in Data Science, Bachelor of Vocational (B.Voc.) Software Development etc., Postgraduate Degree i.e. Master of Computer Applications (MCA), MBA (Master of Business Administration) and many more. Institute offers hostel accommodation for both boys and girls. Presently it can accommodate up to 350 boys and 190 girls. Hostel admissions Application for admission to the hostel should be made in the prescribed form attached to the prospectus with an undertaking to abide by the hostel rules.
Facilities In Hostel:Central Library has a separate Issue Section on the first floor with 2095 sq. meter space, which contains approx. 55,000 books in various disciplines of engineering, sciences, computer application, management and IS Codes approximate number 1230 etc.
Separate Reference Section:Central Library has a separate Reference Section on the second floor with 2495 sq. meter space, which contains approx. 22,000 books for user-ready reference and the section opens from 8.00 am to 9.00 pm (13 hours, Monday-Friday) and 8.00 am to 4.00 pm on Saturday. The sections have 250 students seating capacity at a time. One separate room is available for faculty and staff members and one separate room for PG & research scholars also. All these sections contain free high-speed internet surfing zone for e-books, e-journals & e-magazine access with 20 computers.
Separate Departmental Library:BIT has a separate Departmental Library in every branch for quick reference of the faculty and students, which contains approx. 10000 books. The Project works of the students (UG & PG) are also collected in the Departmental Library.
Separate Merit Book Bank:BIT has a separate Merit Book Bank section for the top seven BIT meritorious students of every branch & semester, which contains approx. 5500 books; the students are provided with additional 06 books at a time for the whole semester to encourage the topper students. This facility is completely free for all the topper students, Institute never charges directly or indirectly.
Separate SC/ST Book Bank:BIT has a separate SC/ST Book Bank section for the relevant students, which contains approx. 2500 books; the students are provided additional 06 books at a time for the whole semester.
Separate Competition Cell:Central Library has a separate Competition Cell in both sections (Issue & Reference) to provide technical & non-technical competitive study materials and environment for various competitive exams faced by the students, which contains approx. 7500 books. The collection contains engineering & other competitive books like GATE, PSC, PSU, UPSC, RBI, RRB, LIC, DRDO, ONGC, SAIL, BHEL, BSNL, IBPS, NDA & NA, PO, CDS, SSC, CAT, MAT, GRE, GMAT, TOEFL etc published by a renowned publisher like Made Easy, GK Pub., Cengage Learning, MGH, ACE Pub., Lexis Nexis, Prabhat Prakashan, Arihant Pub., Unique Pub., S. Chand etc. This section is regularly updated by procuring famous publications with the latest collection.
Separate e-books Section:The library has a separate e-book section for textbooks & reference books, which contains approx. 1100 titles and 6500 volumes. The section have separate 20 computers for e-books access, which can be accessed both online & offline system. Offline e-book access is faster than online & it can be accessed anywhere in the BIT campus through BIT IP address. Online e-books can be accessed out of campus through a user ID & password by every BIT student, staff & faculty member. Apart from the e-books, this platform also provides an online test preparation programme for self-assessment as well as group assessment with real-time function. The e-library platforms also have the feature to upload audio/videos by faculty members, which can be seen by every user.
Wifi Campus:BIT, enjoy being hi-tech. That is why, we are proud that BIT became the first wireless campus of Chhattisgarh State, years before most people had even heard of the technology. As Chhattisgarh’s first hi-tech smart campus, BIT has 110 Mbps Internet Lease Lines from two different ISPs for internet connectivity.
All blocks are interconnected through a highly secured Network, where more than 1,000 PCs are connected to the internet through broadband connections whilst 4 high-end servers power the BIT network.
Medical Facilities:In-house Clinical consultation and the first-aid facility are available to the students. The Institute has a separately appointed Medical Officer for the Boys’ Hostel and a Lady Medical Officer for the Girls’ Hostels. They are available on a regular basis at the Dispensary in the Institute premises for the inmates of the Boys’ Hostel and in the Girls’ Hostels Offices for the inmates of the Girls’ Hostels respectively. Should the need arise, two major hospitals are in the vicinity within 3 km. from the BIT campus. They are ‘Jawaharlal Nehru Hospital & Research Center’ and ‘Chandulal Chandrakar Memorial Hospital’. These hospitals are operative 24 hours a day. First aid Kits are available in all the departments, sections and offices of BIT.
Student Store:For basic and emergency necessities of stannaries for students and staff, a student store is available within the campus. Apart from stationery items, other items such as snacks, biscuits, etc. are also available in the store.
Gymnasium:“A Healthy Lifestyle not only changes your body, it changes your mind and your attitude”. You can experience walls full of treadmills and elliptical machines, few “weight-lifting” machines, a room for low-impact cardio aerobic classes and a section in the back or upstairs for the free weights. You will find all these and many more in the BIT Campus itself.
Sports Facilities:The word Sports not only defines the physical ability and skills of our students but also embraces the bond that tie a team together, coupling them in a friendly environment precluding activities that develop them as a healthy being. While providing enjoyment to participants it also is a means of entertainment for spectators. Our college not only uplifts the players but also shapes the ones who are inclined towards sports activities. Apart from the environment that our sports ground provides, the players here end up building a family with so many tenants all ready to achieve the heights of excelling in the field they are associated with.
Admission is based on an entrance exam conducted by the University.
