Bishop Benziger College of Nursing, Kollam, Kerala is a Unit of Bishop Benziger Hospital Society. It is a charitable society under the Diocese of Quilon, which opened an avenue of health care service to the people in 1948.Under the leadership of Rt. Rev. Dr. Paul Antony Mullassery, the Bishop of Quilon, the diocese runs many aided and unaided institutions in educational, health care, social services, and pastoral sectors. Bishop Benziger College of Nursing, Kollam founded in 2004 by the then Bishop of Quilon Rt. Rev Dr.Stanley Roman, is a Christian minority educational institution. The college is approved and recognized by the Indian Nursing Council (INC) and is affiliated with the Kerala Nurses and Midwives Council (KNMC) and Kerala University of Health Sciences (KUHS). The College offers B.Sc. Nursing program since 2004 and M.Sc. Nursing since 2010 in five specialties namely Medical Surgical Nursing, OBG Nursing, Child Health Nursing, Community Health Nursing, and Psychiatry Nursing. The institution also offers a Ph.D. program in nursing as it is a   recognized Research Centre of KUHS since 2019. Our institution is the second nursing institution in Kerala to get accredited by NAAC with a CGPA of 2.77(B Grade) in 2016, and the first institution under KUHS to get quality accreditation with an A+ grade. The college is the only healthcare institution in Kerala to have membership in the prestigious United Nations Academic Impact (UNAI).

Infrastructure:-

A well-equipped nutrition lab with all basic facilities is available. It is well furnished, comprised of a large dining table with 26 chairs. 25 students can occupy the lab at a time for working practicals. Other facilities available are a Refrigerator, hot and cold water dispenser, 68 wall cupboards and a shelf, 5 gas cylinders along with that 17 sinks for washing articles. Charts on health education regarding the dietary needs of various health conditions, and recommended daily dietary allowance for various age groups are displayed in the lab. Every year nutrition practicals,s are conducted for 1st year B.Sc. Nursing students, as per the specification given in the university syllabus. The college library is a place for quiet study and reading. Members should strictly follow these rules and regulations. The college library has an open-access system. Use books freely, but do not put them on the shelves. Members may please take the help of the librarian whenever they find any difficulty in locating the books. Hostel accommodation is available in the institution premises with well spacious and properly ventilated rooms which will create a homely atmosphere and enable the students to have their studies. All the students should adhere to the rules and any violation will be viewed seriously.

Computer Lab

We have a well-equipped computer Lab. There are 8 systems with Broad Band Internet connections. Students are allowed to utilize this facility to help them in their studies, assignment, and research.

Fundamentals and Medical Surgical

We have a well-equipped Lab with 10 beds where students are trained to attain skills both in Fundamentals and Medical Surgical Nursing. Nursing procedures are taught through 3 Mannequin’s, a CPR dummy, an E.T. tube insertion dummy, and an Infusion hand. The Lab is also aided with essential instruments and various articles needed to do the procedure.

Community Health Nursing Lab

Well, spacious lab with the capacity of 50 seats. We have 50 community bags. A well-equipped lab with almost all the Av Aids, The lab occupies various models, diagrams, posters, charts, puppets, flannel graphs, etc. The lab is well functioning. Good training sessions are planned and implemented in the lab for the students regarding bag techniques, health education, and various community procedures.

Library

We have an advanced digital library with DELNET, OPACE, and Wi-Fi. Our library is a quiet environment that initiates individuals to think and gain knowledge through reading books. Our college library has a maximum of 10000 books and 50 national and international journals which help to update the knowledge. Special hours are allotted for the library to utilize maximum.
