Bishop's College offers a theological education grounded in the teachings of Jesus Christ in the Protestant and Anglican traditions with an emphasis on Contextual theological education. Founded in 1820 by the first Anglican Bishop of Calcutta, Thomas Middleton at Shibpur, the original buildings today house IISET (Indian Institute of Science, Engineering & Technology) earlier called BESU and still earlier the Bengal Engineering College. Around 1883, Bishop's College moved to its present campus on AJC Bose Road in Kolkata and has served to prepare Christians for the priesthood as well as train catechists and teachers ever since. Bishop's College began as an Anglican college but with the formation of the Church of North India (CNI) on 29 November 1970 become a College owned and managed by the CNI. However, it is a college that is ecumenical in its outlook and has teachers and students from many non-Roman Catholic Christian Traditions.

At College, the students are endowed with modern infra and convenient amenities that make their life 'go easy' in college hours, alongside making learning more interesting. Some of the facilities include well-ventilated classrooms, recreational areas, a hostel facility for boys and girls, indoor and outdoor games, a stocked library, seamless internet connectivity, medical facilities, etc.

Library :

Like other theological seminary libraries, the library of Bishop's College is also treated as one of the most important organs of the college, as it not only is a repository of books and documents, but also a resource/information center, and center of several academic activities. The Number of holdings (books) shelved in the general stack rooms and reference room is more or less 33,000, and number of back volumes of bound journals is more or less 15,000. Over 500 volumes of new books on average are being added to the library collection every year through acquisition and gift. The library receives over 150 serial publications through subscriptions, journal exchange policy, and also as gifts.

Admission:

Candidates can apply for admission to B.D. or B.Div. by filling out the application form online or offline. The application form may require candidates to provide personal and academic details, as well as details of any prior theological study. Candidates may also be required to provide a statement of purpose and letters of recommendation. Some colleges may also conduct an interview as part of the admission process.
