BJB Autonomous College is one of the premier educational institutions in Orissa. Apart from regular courses for the degree of Bachelor in Arts, Science, and Commerce, some selected Self-Financing Courses have been introduced with the approval of the Government. The college offers four self-financing courses at the UG level and five self-financing courses at the PG level. Three of the self-financing UG courses are Integrated courses that are for a duration of five years. Admission to the regular Bachelor’s degree courses is based on the merit of the candidates in their qualifying examination. However, candidates applying for the self-financing courses need to sit for an entrance test conducted by the college.
B.J.B Autonomous College is one of the premier educational institutions in the State. It came into existence in 1957 through the initiative of the Government of Orissa. Named after Buxi Jagabandhu Bidyadhar Bhramarabara Ray Mahapatra, the rebel extraordinary of pre-independent India, it is located over an area of 28.2 acres of land near Kalpana Square on the National Highway connecting Cuttack and Puri. It is situated at a distance of 3 km from Biju Patnaik International Airport and 2 km from Bhubaneswar railway station. It was an affiliated college of Utkal University till 1998. It has been functioning as an autonomous institution since 1999 following the conferment of autonomy by the UGC. Autonomy was renewed by UGC in 2016. The college was placed in Grade ‘A’ in 2004 after an assessment by the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC), an autonomous body of the University Grants Commission, New Delhi. The 2nd Cycle of NAAC accreditation was conferred on the college in 2016 with the college securing Grade ‘A’ with a 3.19 CGPA which was from 02/12/2016 to 1/12/2021. Recently the college has initiated steps to achieve the 3rd cycle of NAAC accreditation. Institutional Information for Quality Assessment (IIQA) has been submitted successfully by the college on 11th January 2022. The Self Study Report (SSR) has been prequalified for assessment on 19th August 2022.

Over the years the Institution has in terms of infrastructure, Student enrolment and subject options. Needless to say, in keeping with its fast expansion as a premier multi-faculty co-educational institution, it has earned the reputation of attracting the largest no. of emeritus students to its various programme of study from all over the state and outside.
BJB Autonomous College is Recognised by University Grants Commission (UGC), accredited by National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) and affiliated with Utkal University.
BJB Autonomous College courses are offered at various levels like Postgraduate Degrees (i.e Bachelor of Art Honours (BA Hons.), Bachelor of Commerce Honours (B.Com. Hons.), Bachelor of Science Honours (B.Sc. Hons.) Botany, etc) and many more. Healthy and hygienic food is available to all the students in BCCM Canteen which is open from morning till late at night. The students’ committee manages and monitors the operations of the canteen.
LibraryThe college is known for its commendable infrastructure with 42 classrooms, 8 galleries and 3 halls. The laboratories are well-equipped and adequate for the students. The timetable for the engagement of classes and the conduct of various academic programmes is adjusted in such a manner that the infrastructure is optimally used. It has also a sprawling playground of 22,317 sq.mts., catering to both indoor and outdoor games and sports requirements of the students.
Games And SportsThe Institution has earned an equally excellent name in the field of sports. It bagged the University Championship in Basket Ball and Cricket in 2007-08. Many students represented the University in the East Zone Inter University Cricket and Basket Ball Tournaments. It has also a sprawling playground of 22,317 sq.mts., catering to both indoor and outdoor games and sports requirements of the students
Other FacilitiesThere is a post office on the campus, besides a canteen. The college has provisions for NCC(Men/Women, Army wing/Air wing) and NSS( Boys & Girls). The Women’s Cell of the college has been in operation since 2000-2001. It aims at protecting the dignity and rights of women students. By the orders of the Hon’ble Supreme Court of India, an Anti-Ragging Cell has been formed in the college. The Students’ Grievances Redressal Cell has been constituted to receive complaints from students and ensure justice. Students Representatives are also taken as members of the Cell along with members of the faculty. There is an Information Dissemination Cell (Under the Right to Information Act) which is meant to disseminate relevant information to anyone on matters relating to the college. The college has an impressive Alumni Association registered under the name “B.J.B Friends” which meets annually. It is a major source of strength for the college since many well-placed alumni have come forward to assist the Institution in promoting excellence. After the college attained Autonomy, it has shown remarkable progress and development in all respects. It has revised the existing curriculum, introduced new and challenging subjects of learning and completely overhauled the traditional examinations system. The college has acquired several expensive items of equipment. Nearly all the departments, the Office, the Library and Examination Section are equipped with computers and 24-hour broadband internet facility.
The Placement Cell is managed by a specially trained team of faculty members as coordinators. The Cell aims at providing opportunities for employment in different sectors by conducting campus drives and off-campus drives in collaboration with various organizations of repute. In the last three years annual campus drives were organized in association with organizations like IBM Daksh, Genpact, TCS, Wipro, Infosys, HSBC, and SBI (for Probationary Officers). Hundreds of students at their final degree stage are given opportunities in the drive and many of them have been selected and are now working in different reputed organizations of the country.
