Bangalore Medical College and Research Institute were established as a private medical school in the year 1955 by the Mysore Education Society. The founders of this company were Dr. R. Shivaram, Dr. Mekhri, and Dr. B.K. Narayana Rao and Dr. B.V. Ramaswamy. It was ceded to the then Mysore government in 1957 with affiliation to Mysore University and then to Bangalore University.
