The Catholic College owes its existence to the innate vision of the much-lamented HH Baselios Geevarghese II, Catholicos of the Malankara Orthodox Church, and HG Puthencavil Geevarghese Mar Philoxenos, then Metropolitan of the Diocese of Thumpamon. The college had the prayerful leadership of H.G. Daniel Mar Philoxenos, first Director of the College, then Metropolitan of the Diocese of Thumpamon. The university recently celebrated its platinum anniversary. 

College was officially opened on August 6, 1952, by Venerable Raja Pramukh of Travancore - Cochin, S.E.(late) Sri. Chithira Thirunal Raja Raja Varma. The more virtuous H.H. Baselius Geevarghese II laid the foundation for this educational institution on a quiet hilltop at Makkamkunnu, west of the town of Pathanamthitta in Kerala. In 1952 the college was affiliated with Travancore University and later with Kerala University. It is now affiliated with Mahatma Gandhi University in Kottayam. The college was granted the status of a Christian minority institution by the Indian government in 2012. The college maintains the motto "The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom" with the vision of "creating an educated and enlightened society for a brave new world".

Hostel for boys and girls: 

Male students are accommodated at E. John Philipose Memorial Hostel and for female students at Daniel Mar Philoxenos Hostel and Angelis Hostel. The caretaker is the main caretaker and there are separate caretakers as well. Animal shelters have their own rules, which are issued by the caretakers there. 

Library: 

Catholicate College has a library that was established in 1952 to serve the needs of its students and staff. It offers a wide range of library books tailored to the needs of the college making it one of the largest university libraries in Kerala. The library covers an area of 9,250 m2.ft and can accommodate 200 students. The library has a total of 72,853 books. Also, subscribe to newspapers/magazines. Except for; There are 7 branch libraries. The library has broadband connections. The library is linked to every faculty and department and students can access the books from any terminal in the college. The library is open every day except Sundays and public holidays. The company is open Monday to Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. The library is accessible to students and employees free of charge. A student can drop off books in their name at any time and keep them for 15 days if they are school books. Reading from the library is not possible.

Sports:

The Department of Physical Education oversees the college's sporting activities. The faculty cares about the well-being of all undergraduate students. Games and athletics facilities are available under the supervision of qualified coaches. Intercollegiate tournaments in volleyball (Catholicate Trophy), football (Mar Philoxenos Memorial Trophy), and softball (Mar Eusebius Memorial Trophy) are annual events. The ministry has completed two small projects and a is underway Extension program. The college has a Kerala Sports Council-approved indoor softball (male and female) gymnasium. The gym facilities are open to all students and teachers. The faculty ranked third among MG's undergraduate colleges for best athletic university in 2017–18 and 2018–19. In the 5th semester, the department conducts an open subject entitled Physical Health and Life Skills Education.
