Central Institute of Freshwater Aquaculture, Bhubaneswar Orissa was established in the year 1987 as Private Educational Institute to provide higher education to build a career in the field of Science. Its objective is to delve into the best and most varied freshwater Aquaculture practices which can enhance fish production and benefit farmers and fishermen. Central Institute of Freshwater Aquaculture is running devoted scientific and training programs to evolve diversified methods to cultivate viable fish production systems. The institute has 5 Regional Research Centres across the country equipped with modern technologies and Research Scholars.

CIFA Infrastructure and Facilities
CIFA Library
Library and information services The CIFA Library and Documentation Unit acts as a repository of literature and information and provides the latest information in the field of Freshwater Aquaculture, fish genetics, and Biotechnology, fish Nutrition and Physiology, fisheries, and related aspects.
CIFA Resource Development
The library has a total collection of 6991 books, 2500 bound volumes of journals, and other reference materials. The library has subscribed to 24 International current journals and 44 Indian current Journals. In addition to these some journals were received on a gratis/exchange basis. The library has been recognized as the FAO Depository Library and has a good collection of FAO Publications related to Fisheries and allied agricultural sciences.
CIFA Library Automation
The CIFA Library is operating in a fully automated environment. The various activities of the library have been computerized using the integrated library management software Libsys. The record of books, journals, etc, were entered into the database. Barcoding of books, periodicals, and maps for automated circulation was undertaken. Online Public Access catalog was made available for the library users
CIFA Information and Reference services
ICAR-CIFA has Three Guest Houses, Ashoka Guest House, Dhauli Guest House, and Kalinga Hostel situated on the campus. These Guest Houses are primarily meant for official guests of the IARI/ ICAR/participants of Seminars / Workshops/ Symposia / Conferences / Training Programmes Organised by the Institute as well as those sponsored by the ICAR. Scientists/Researchers from other ICAR institutes/SAUs/ Central /State Government may also be accommodated provided they write well in advance for reservation of rooms to the Officer In-charge of the Guest Houses. Accommodation shall be provided subject to the availability of rooms at the time of arrival of the guests. The campus is lush green in the abode of nature with a virgin environment.
CIFA Guest House
The Guest Houses provide bedding (bed sheet, pillow, sheet, pillow cover, blanket, mattress, etc.). An inventory of articles for use in the rooms is available in each room. The guests are requested to check these items at the time of occupying the room. The responsibility for any missing item will, thereafter, rest with the guests. The guests are responsible for the proper use and upkeep of the materials/fixtures provided in the rooms as also in the guest house. They shall be liable to pay charges for any loss or damage caused during their stay. Check-out time is 24 hrs from the time of arrival. The Guest may check-in at any time, however, for accounting, a day means 24 hours from the time of occupancy/arrival. The fraction of the day will be counted as a full day. All dues should be cleared before departure during office hours (preferably 10 a.m.- 4 p.m.) on working days. Please demand official receipts for payments made. We promote an online mode of payment at our Guest Houses. Please Cooperate. Please do not forget to carry and produce proper identity proof as per demand during your stay in the CIFA guest houses.
CIFA ASRB Online Examination Facility
CIFA has been selected by ASRB as one of the centers to host the online ARS Prelim/Net examinations. For this purpose, four examination hall with a total seating capacity of 100 students to appear for the online ARS Prelim/Net examination has been created. It was inaugurated by former member ASRB Dr. M. J. Modayl.

The Sophisticated Analytical Instruments Facility (SAIF), is a portal developed on the website of ICAR-CIFA. The purpose of establishing this portal is to provide data collection facilities from sophisticated analytical equipment to the scientific community from different research and education institutes/universities for their advanced research with nominal charges.
