CUJ was established in 2009 under the first schedule of the Central Universities Act, 2009. The first and founding Vice Chancellor (VC), Darlando Khathing, was appointed 1 March 2009. Khathing served until March 2014, when he was replaced by acting VC A.N. Mishra. Mishra served as active VC until the appointment of Nand Kumar Yadav Indu as permanent VC in August 2015.
The Central University of Jharkhand often known as CUJ also known as CUJ Ranchi is a remarkably newly established university established in 2009. A larger and more impressive campus covering 524 acres has been given for Cheri Manatu University. The University of Cheri Manatu is not yet fully operational because of the difficulties encountered in the process of developing the school. But, since its beginning, the university has been operating with its temporary, huge eco-friendly campus of 45 acres at Bramble.
CU is recognized by the University Gant Council (UGC).In addition to being accredited by UGC, CUJ also holds accreditation from the Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD).
The courses offered at the Central University in Jharkhand are developed in accordance with the evolving times. Courses such as Green technology, are also finding their place within the university's educational structure. There are more than 40 master's and research programs offered for students to select from as well as five-year integrated programs too. The most sought-after courses include B.Ed., M.A. in Performing Arts, M.A. with a concentration in Mass Communication, M.Tech. in Mass Communication, M.Tech. Water Engineering and Management, and MBA. Ph.D. courses include courses that include Ph.D. in applied Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, and Human Rights and Conflicts Management for instance.
Hostel
The hostel facilities at the CUJ are full of amenities. The hostels are divided into separate blocks for Boys and Girls, and each block has its separate mess and hall. Alongside the large layout of the hostels, the hostels are also equipped with DTH televisions along with indoor games, as well as water Purifiers. Boys are given a room with single occupancy. However, girls are given rooms on a shared basis. The total capacity for student housing of the hostel currently has reached a staggering number of students. Apart from the accommodation of pupils, it could accommodate up to 50 researchers.
Laboratories
The Campus is home to several labs that students can use for different classes. The labs vary from the Core science labs, such as Physics, and Chemistry Life science laboratories, to engineering labs, such as the water treatment labs as well as Solar thermal labs. Gym and Sports
Eight different sports disciplines are currently available in the Central University of Jharkhand. Each discipline is appropriately supported, and, more importantly, there are permanent coaches to help students. Alongside the sports, appropriate gym facilities and Yoga centres are accessible in addition. The outdoor sports are Football, Hockey, Cricket, Badminton, Volleyball, and Basketball. The indoor sports are Gymnasium, Table tennis, Wushu and Yoga.
Canteen
The capacity currently at the cafeteria is 150 chairs. Along with being in the cafeteria, college students make problems with their hostels.
Library
Students at universities have access to all electronic books from the library central. Alongside e-books students also have access to university-issued e-books from foreign universities by using the software offered from the school. Alongside all of these, the university provides a good number of research papers, journals as well as books and thesis accessible to students via the library. The Swayam services offered from GOI are also accessible to students.
Transport
The university currently has eight fully-sized buses that travel across five different ways between Ranchi central and the campus for pick-up and drop services.

Internet Facilities
The campus has Wi-Fi connectivity. In addition, The University has seven servers inside the data centre of its own that allows it to connect to the pool of information of the National Knowledge Network. An authentication system based on software and the integration of the internet throughout the campus is in the works.
CUJ Placements are taken care of by the placement cell. The first batch of students from CUJ was placed in firms such as Vikram Solar Ltd. to institutions such as IIT Bombay. The placement cell gives each year's placement assistance. The median pay at CUJ is 4.25 lakhs. The salary packages have ranged from 1.8 lakhs to a peak of 9.4 lakhs in the past.
Admission to all courses is granted on basis of the student's performance on the CUCET test.
To be eligible for MA, M.Sc., M.Com, MBA, M.Tech, and LLM courses, candidates must have graduated from the appropriate stream.
Candidates must have completed an either Bachelor's Degree or a Master's degree in Sciences/Social Sciences/Humanities to be qualified for B.Ed. admission.
To be eligible for Ph.D. admission, candidates should have completed a Master's or doctoral studies in the discipline of their choice.
