CSI College of Commerce was established in 1973 by the Basel Mission Higher Education Centre which has a history of more than 200 years. The College was established at a time when there were no exclusive colleges for Commerce studies in Dharwad. BMHEC known to be a trailblazer in the field of education decided to provide the much needed service. Students from Dharwad and its surrounding villages interested in perusing Commerce had no other options but go to either Hubli or some other town. Looking to the greater need for a Commerce College at Dharwad, the management of Basel Mission Higher Education Centre Dharwad under the able leadership of the great visionary Late R.S. Bangera, Chairman, BMHEC, took initiative and applied for permission to start a Commerce college at Dharwad. Thus dream of a Commerce College came true on 11th August, 1973 and was officially inaugurated by Dr. A.S. Adke, the then Vice-Chancellor of Karnatak University, Dharwad on 12th September, 1973 as CSI College of Commerce.

Library is heart of the college. The library is fully computerized with library management software “E-lib” to achieve accuracy and speed up transactions. The software supports multilingual and barcode technology. It has designed to meet the academic needs of the students. As a knowledge hub, it provides access to various information resources ranging from the latest books, text books, career guides, and reference books. Gym:

To promote health awareness among the students, the Physical Director looks after the well equipped Gym. The gym has been successful in creating fitness consciousness among our youths.

Auditorium:

The well ventilated and ICT enabled auditorium has a seating capacity of more than 250. It is used for various activities like workshops, seminars, conferences, all the literary association activities, teachers’ day, farewell functions, valedictory function of cultural and sports activities, alumni / parents meet and so on.

The AV enabled Auditorium is situated on the first floor. The auditorium is used for a variety of activities -both academic and cultural. Various programs like Freshers Day, Class Day, Teachers Day Talents Day and the like are conducted here. Seminars, Workshops, Book Talk competitions, Debate and Elocution are also conducted here.

Computer Labs:

The college has two computer labs, one on the first floor and another in the M. Com wing exclusively for PG students. One lab is equipped with 60 computers and is used both by BCA and B. Com students. While the other lab in M. Com wing is equipped with 10 computers and is for the exclusive use of PG students. The computers are equipped with the Intel Core i3, 4GB, 550 GB hard disk, 18.5’ monitors. The main lab has IBM Server

Medical Facilities:

The centre is equipped with basic health facilities to provide primary health care and includes emergency medication as well. It also has a digital Blood pressure monitor, Pulse and oxygen monitor. The centre has a bed where patients can receive first aid, in case of emergency, they are transferred to Civil Hospital which is close by.

Sports Facilities:

The College believes in giving equal scope to the curricular, co-curricular and extra-curricular. Over the years, the college has gained a name for is sporting achievements. Each year the college has a number of University Blues. Encouragement for sports is also provided through special quota for students aspiring to gain a name in various sporting events.

The sports room has various indoor games. There is ample scope for outdoor games too.

Students can avail the following indoor and outdoor sports facilities-
Outdoor - Basket Ball, Kabaddi, Badminton, Cricket, Table-Tennis, Hand Ball and Gym.

Classrooms:

The classrooms in the college are well-lit and ventilated. This ambience adds to the teaching-learning pedagogy which is what the college strongly believes in. Major of the classes have a seating capacity of more than 140. They are equipped with electronic lecterns. Some of the classrooms are fitted with green boards and whiteboard. Every class is ICT enabled and has a projector with network capability.

The classrooms are clean and well-maintained and are refurbished regularly to keep up with the advancing ICT technology.
