Darjeeling Polytechnic, located in the Kurseong subdivision, was established in 1964 and currently offers diploma engineering courses in the Darjeeling district of West Bengal. It was established to meet the needs of students from the hills of West Bengal who wanted to study engineering but did not have the financial means to leave home and study in distant places. The institute has certainly achieved more in its 56 years of operation. It has carved a niche as the only institute to provide quality engineering education to local students, many of whom work in various departments and companies in the hill region. Admission

Selection for all full-time degree posts is based on marks in Secondary Education (Madhyamik) or equivalent examination approved by WBSCTE. At least 35% of English, science, and mathematics subjects are required. 70% of all seats in each branch are filled by candidates from Darjeeling three hill subdivision. Mirik, Kurseong, Darjeeling (Sadar) and Kalimpong District. The remaining 30% of the total seats in each branch are filled by candidates from Darjeeling (including the Siliguri subdivision) and Kalimpong district.
