Dhanalakshmi College of Engineering (DCE), an offshoot of the prestigious Dhanalakshmi Education Trust was set up near Tambaram at Chennai in the year 2001-2002. DCE is the brainchild of the eminent and dedicated academician and former professor of Anna University Dr. V. P. Ramamurthi. DCE is a sister institute of the Indian Institute of Professional Education (IIPE), an institute offering coaching for professional courses entrance examinations, also founded by Dr. V P Ramamurthi, M.Sc.(Engg.), Ph.D. in the year 1993. The institution not only provides quality engineering education to mold the students into technologically sound, efficient, effective, and creative engineers but also molds them into responsible human beings.

Apart from individual department libraries, the college houses a massive central library of 500 sq.m. built-up area, with a seating capacity for about 200 students. The library boasts an extensive collection of nearly 35,000 volumes and also provides access to 59 national journals. Subscription towards 120 online IEEE e-journals under Indexed – AICTE consortium and 1100 DEL NET e-journals are subscribed, to provide updates to all students, to augment their project impart. The entire library is digitized and uses an exclusive software package (OPAC) that details acquisition, cataloging, circulation, serials, and article indexing.

The Department of Physical Education has 25 acres of the on-campus playground with various sporting facilities as listed below. All the playgrounds and courts are of International Standards. Two cricket pitches are available for organizing Zonal, State Level, and National Level tournaments.

Training Cell

Every student dreams of getting placed in top companies. The cell identifies the training needs based on the industry requirements from time to time and trains the students using corporate trainers and assists the students in completing certification courses. It identifies the industry needs and organizes special courses and projects for the faculty members through Faculty Development Programmes (FDP) to enhance their skill set as per industry standards.

Placements

The placement cell continuously works to identify the requirements of companies and coordinates with the training cell and the career development cell to train the students. The Team maps the right talent to the right industry. It has been working meticulously to achieve 100% placements year after year. The placement cell focuses more on giving opportunities in core industries to the students.

The placement cell has introduced the "Earn While You Learn" model through paid internships. The students are prepared for interviews and are placed for internships. The students are paid a stipend, ranging from Rs. 10,000 – Rs. 25,000/- during their internship period. The internship model helps the students and the corporate to understand each other better, paving way for the students to get placed in the companies. The cell continuously monitors their progress and facilitates the students to upgrade their skill set appropriately. Special timetables and procedures are designed to facilitate the students to complete their regular curriculum during their internship.
