The Directorate of Distance Education in L.N.M.U. was established in the year 1998 vide University Letter No. P/D 54-139/96, dated 07.02.1998. Dr. Harendra Singh the controller of examination, at L.N. Mithila University, Darbhanga was the First Director in charge of the Directorate of Distance Education. The task assigned to him was to formulate and prepare the proposal for starting Distance Education from session 1998-99 with the approval of different Bodies of L.N.M.U. However, the Directorate becomes functional and operative in 2005 with the launching of B.Ed. Program in collaboration with IGNOU. The Directorate is now offering U.G., P.G., B.Lis., M.Lis, and Professional Programmes like B.Ed. (ODL) as well as B.Ed. in regular mode with the approval of U.G.C.-DEB, N.C.T.E., and the State of Bihar Government.
