It had been a long cherished dream of the people of Santragachi to have a degree college in their locality. The dream gradually turned into a demand. At this turn, certain events also coincided. Late Sudhir Kumar Ghosh decided to donate his land and the building situated at Dharmatala in Ramrajatala. After that with the initiative of the then-local MLA Sri Satyen Ghosh and some important persons of the area, a trustee was formed before setting up the college.

Late Sudhir Kumar Ghosh decided to donate his land and the building situated at Dharmatala in Ramrajatala. After that with the initiative of the then-local MLA Sri Satyen Ghosh and some important persons in the area, a trustee was formed before setting up the college. It was 26th November 1984. On 10th March 1985 in a public meeting presided over by Late Raghudas Baul and attended by Late Sudhir Kumar Ghosh, the college was named after the leading educationist, respected public leader, and ex-minister of Industry and Commerce (Govt. of W. B.), Late Professor Dr. Kanailal Bhattacharyya. Enlisting the College as ‘Govt.-aided College’ under(Sec) 2(f) and 12(b) of UGC vide order no.8-48/87 dated 22nd October 1994. At present, the College is preparing for the impending 4th cycle of NAAC Re-Accreditation.
Dr. Kanailal Bhattacharyya College is affiliated with the University of Calcutta and is Recognized by University Grants Commission. Accredited by National Assessment and Accreditation Council.
Dr. Kanailal Bhattacharyya College courses are offered at various levels like undergraduate programs Bachelor of Arts Honours (BA Hons.) History, Bachelor of Arts Honours (BA Hons.) Political Science, Bachelor of Arts Honours (BA Hons.) Geography, Bachelor of Arts Honours (BA Hons.) English, Bachelor of Arts Honours (BA Hons.) Philosophy, Bachelor of Arts (BA) English, Bachelor of Commerce (B.Com.), Bachelor of Science (B.Sc. Hons.) Physiology, Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.) Zoology, Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.) Botany, Bachelor of Science Honours (B.Sc. Hons.) Botany. Library:
Dr. Kanailal Bhattacharyya College institutional library started its journey in the year 1985 with a single almirah and a single room headed by a single staff with twenty-five books only. The number of books and almirahs increased day by day. The institutional library got its full shape in the year 2002 after the inauguration of a new building dedicated to the library. At present, we have almost eighty almiras and the total collection of books is almost fifteen thousand. From 2019 Library system is upgraded with library-supported software Koha. The whole college is facilitated with a library QR Code by which students can get direct access to the Library. The library URL is also linked to the college website.

The college has a health center with a first aid facility for the students.

Dr. Kanailal Bhattacharyya College offers diverse UG-level courses with multiple Specializations in the field of Arts, Science, and Commerce. The college offers a Bachelor of Arts in (Political Science, Education, History, English, Philosophy, and Geography. Bachelor of Commerce, Bachelor of Science in (Botany, Zoology, Biology, Physiology, Chemistry) courses. The college offers vocational, diploma, and certification courses.
Admissions to all Undergraduate B.A., B.Sc., and B.Com Honours & General Courses for the Academic Session will be done through an Online process.
Online admission is to be done by the merit list.
Verification of documents will be done only when the students report for the Classes in due course.
Students can apply for a maximum of 3 courses. The admission form is Rs.175/-
Payment of Fees will be done online. Not physically at the college.
