Dr MGR-Janaki College was founded by Dr Latha Rajendran in the year 1996 as a tribute to the Late Bharat Ratna Dr M.G. Ramachandran, former Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu and his wife Mrs Janaki Ramachandran. Under the dedicated leadership of our Founder, the college grew from its humble beginnings to become a premier institution producing rank holders in multiple disciplines. Due to the able guidance of illustrious personalities like the Late Mr  N.P.V. Ramasamy Udayar, the Late Dr N.C.Raghavachari, Late Dr Jeppiaar, the college has had qualitative and quantitative progress. The college is managed by SSPL Charities.

Facilities and Infrastructure

The college has adequate infrastructure to efficiently transact and achieve the best education. Library:

Central Library provides a range of collections, services and study spaces for students. The library is housed in a large hall stocked with a wide variety of reading materials. The Library has a total collection of about 32,000 books and provides access to more than 100 journals and magazines. Online E-RESOURCES, UGC-N-List, DELNET and INFLIBNET facility which provides access to several line articles is also available. A book bank with more than 2500 books is available. Photocopying facility is provided for the benefit of Students and Faculty. The College has an institutional membership with the British Council Library, The American Library (USCG) and the University of Madras which the students and faculty make use of to widen their knowledge in diverse fields. The college is a member of the NDLI club (National Digital Library club).WiFi facility is available for students and faculty members. Apart from the Central Library, each Department has a functional library of select books about the syllabus.

Admission

Students are required to register along with the completed application forms. A self-addressed stamped envelope should be submitted along with the application. Candidates from SC/ST/Christian Adi Dravida Communities need not pay any fees for registration. After registration, communication will be sent to those students who have been provisionally selected. The provisionally selected student has to attend an interview along with her parents on the date and time specified in the intimation card. If the student fails to attend the interview on the date and time mentioned, the provisional selection is automatically cancelled. All admissions are provisional, subject to approval by the University of Madras.

Scholarships

Scholarships are provided as per the rules of the Government of Tamil Nadu. Apart from this, the college also admits candidates with hearing impairment to all courses with prior permission from the University of Madras. Empathizing with their predicament, it provides a fee concession. Students excelling in sports are exempted from payment of fees. Non-Governmental Organizations such as AGARAM and MAATRAM Foundation identify deserving students and our college admits 200 such students with a Full Fee waiver.

The college awards Proficiency Prizes to students who have topped the University of Madras examinations in all subjects every year. Endowment prizes instituted by well-wishers of the college are awarded to the students during Graduation Ceremony every year.
