Footwear Design And Development Institute was established by the Ministry of Commerce and Industry, Government of India in the year 1986. FDDI is playing a key role in imparting education, and facilitating the Indian industry by bridging the skill gap in the areas of Footwear, Leather Accessory & lifestyle product, and because of its continuous contribution towards nation building, FDDI has been granted the status of “An Institution of National Importance” under the FDDI Act 2017.

Facilities and Infrastructure

Residential Accommodations:

The hostel at FDDI Chandigarh Campus offers spacious, hygienic, and secure facilities. The rooms are properly ventilated and provided with fans, tube lights, and necessary furniture. Each student is provided a cot, a chair, a table, and a cupboard (locker). Rooms are well furnished and students are required to bring only their personal belongings (including bedding for all seasons). Moreover, the hostel is offered on first-cum-first serve basis.

Library:

FDDI Chandigarh Campus has a library with books from all over the world. The library subscribes to Indian and foreign journals and magazines. The Institute provides adequate library facilities for the students. The library includes an air-conditioned reading hall, and a Wi-Fi facility and has a calm atmosphere so that the students can concentrate on their work. The Library provides various collections of books, other printed materials, and in some cases special materials such as manuscripts, newspapers, and other sources of information on Fashion Design, Leather Technology, Retail, and related industries. It is equipped with resources and facilities for study, research, self-improvement, and leisure through e-books, published material, and electronic media.

Hi-tech computer lab (itsc) & cad/cam lab:

The computer center (ITSC) is well equipped with state-of-the-art computing resources to cater to the needs of the academic as well as administrative activities of the FDDI. The center has adequate infrastructure and is working round the clock throughout the year. The salient features of the center are the newest servers, storage, the latest designing software, more than 100 latest computers, more than 10 laser printers, a video conference facility, technically competent software, and hardware professionals. Fast-speed Internet access is available with the help of a dedicated lease line. Internet facility is made available to the staff, students, and training participants for external communication and global exposure to designing. The use of the internet is closely monitored by powerful Unified Threat Management appliances fulfilling the norms of the Ministry of Communication and I.T.

Classrooms:

The campus has air-conditioned well equipped classrooms, and technical workshops equipped with modern state-of-art machinery. It has conference halls, seminar halls, ITSC, CAD/CAM lab, and a Digital library, which makes the campus the most modern and world-class institute in its area. All classrooms are in Administrative Building. All Classrooms are made not only to just create an atmosphere that is conducive to learning but, in a sense to nurture the quest for knowledge that the students possess. All classrooms are air-conditioned and equipped with all modern teaching aids.

Sports Facilities:

All-round development is essential for any educational institution and FDDI Chandigarh is committed to providing a variety of sports and recreational facilities to its students. The campus has an indoor sports complex within the campus having table tennis, badminton courts, etc. The institutes also conduct regular yoga and meditation classes as well as organize the sport’s weak in each semester.

Admission

Over and above the regular seats, 10% of seats are reserved in each program for NRI / Industry-Sponsored / International candidates who meet the prescribed eligibility criteria. The NRI/ Industry Sponsored Candidate shall be interviewed and the selection shall be done on a merit basis. NRI/ Industry sponsored candidates are required to pay twice the tuition fee in the case of Noida, Hyderabad, Chennai, Kolkata, and Chandigarh campuses and 50% extra tuition fee for other campuses in addition to the other components of the fee. Industry-sponsored candidates applying for admission into Bachelor & Master programs have to fill out the registration form available at the Institute website (tentatively in the mid of July 2023). Candidates applying in the sponsored category must submit a sponsorship certificate issued on the company letterhead duly signed & stamped by the authorized person as per the format given below.

Scholarships

Students from all FDDI campuses can apply for scholarships offered by government agencies as per their processes and eligibility criteria. FDDI does not offer any scholarship of its own. The institute only facilitates the process by processing/ forwarding scholarship applications of eligible students as per defined criteria.

Placements

The Training & Placement Department plays a key role in counseling and guiding the students of the Institute for their successful careers. It is a crucial interface for the students between the stage of completion of the academic program of studies and entry into the professional world. The Training & Placement Department invites reputed National and multinational companies for Internships and placement of students across all courses and campuses. The department ensures proper grooming sessions to prepare students to face interviews, discussions & challenges that await them on pre & post-professional journeys.
