Gandhi Institute of Management and Technology, popularly known as GIMT, was founded in 2000 by an inspired group of eminent intellectuals and educationists. The institute has started its operations under the name Gandhi Academy Of Management Studies in Greater Calcutta – Salt Lake.

The institute shares the vision of The Father Of Our Nation- Mahatma Gandhi. Mahatma wanted to see India as a socially and economically forward country and he considered education as an essential means to achieve this goal. His view is neither narrow nor sectarian. He visioned educational institutions as places of higher learning that transcend all linguistic, racial, and other barriers.

Out of a similar vision, GIMT was born and our goal has been to impart quality education in the field of professional studies to the young and budding students of Eastern and North-Eastern India. Our dream was to give these students Global Exposure with an affordable and economical budget. We started our journey with 26 bright young students that year. Each of them was very special- a bright hope for the Millennium.

We began with Hotel Management as a primary course as the hospitality industry was blooming and was providing a wide range of job opportunities to all. We had a successful beginning and we have followed and enhanced this curriculum over the years. We expanded our wings and by the end of the decade, we introduced 14 other courses (undergraduate courses)- B.B.A., B.C.A., Cruise Line Management, M.B.A., Tourism, Hospital Management, B.Sc. I.T.

We wholeheartedly extend our gratitude to all parents and guardians of the students who have offered immense help and support to date. We remember all our dear students who have been part of this incredible journey. We are also grateful for the relentless efforts of all our faculty members and all other staff of our institute who have consistently motivated our students and have also helped them to achieve remarkable results. GIMT also stands as a forerunner in terms of placements.

Gandhi Institute Of Management And Technology achieved several accolades and recognitions during its operation in the past few decades. We have been awarded the NAVA JYOTI award for being the best institute for placements for the years 2005 and 2008, the Rotary Saw award for being the best institute for providing courses for economically backward students, and the FRONTIER award in the year 2010 by the states for maximum Global Exposure to the students from the Eastern part of India.

We will continue to empower the young generation of this country through education, and we are also committed to imbibing the values and philosophy of Mahatma Gandhi.
