The College started teaching with 50 students in the first batch and celebrated its Silver Jubilee in 1980 from 22-24 December by the time 2549 Graduates, 525 Postgraduates, and 230 Diploma students were through its portal. Now 23 Departments with multi faceted Faculty along with the Medico legal Institute, Regional Eye Institute and Cardiac Sciences Centre are well established, Post Graduate Courses in almost all the specialties and Post Doctoral Courses in Pediatric Surgery are ongoing and a Post Doctoral Course in Cardiothoracic Surgery is about to be commenced. A major breakthrough was achieved in the administration on 4th of January 1997 when the College attained Autonomy. Taking a lesson from the brilliant history and in quest of a brighter future, the task just seems to have begun.
