Ganga Hospital was started in 1978 by Dr. J G Shanmuganathan and Mrs. Kanakavalli Shanmuganathan with 17 beds and 2 Operating theatres at Ramnagar, Coimbatore. The hospital underwent multi-staged expansions and was converted to a specialty center in Orthopaedics and Plastic Surgery after their sons Dr. S Raja Sabapathy and Dr. S Rajasekaran returned to India following specialist training in UK and USA. In 1991. The hospital moved over to its present premises in Mettupalayam Road, Coimbatore in 2007 and added expansion to a separate block in 2020.

At present, with a bed capacity of 650 beds and 36 Operating theatres dedicated to the field of Orthopaedics, Plastic Surgery, and Trauma Surgery, the hospital stands as one of the largest specialty units in this field in South Asia.

Courses Offered

Ganga Institute of Health Sciences, Coimbatore courses are offered at various levels like Undergraduate Degrees i.e General Nursing Midwifery (GNM), Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.) in Nursing, Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.) Facilities and Infrastructure

Classroom:

There are Twenty-five classrooms of which two are gallery-type. Fully equipped laboratories aim at giving the students complete practical training in each department.

Library:

The spacious and well-equipped library with a voluminous collection of more than 3000 books, journals, and periodicals on an array of subjects. A separate facility for accessing e-journals is also available in the library. Many international journals are also accessible.

Transport:

The Institutional buses are available for students to provide practical exposure in the hospitals.

Hostel:

One of the advantages of the Institute is that the hostel is within the campus. It has hygienic and fully furnished rooms and dormitories. An in-house canteen that serves vegetarian and non-vegetarian food.
