Goswami Ganesh Dutta Sanatan Dharma College (GGDSDC) is a college of Panjab University located in the North Indian city of Chandigarh. Established in 1973, the GGDSD college is spread over 16.5 acres of land. The college has been awarded an A+ grade by the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC), Bangalore. GGDSD College ranked 82nd in 2018 All India Ranking by NIRF, MHRD. The college is also recognized as a 'College with Potential for Excellence' by the University Grants Commission (UGC), Delhi.

The congenial atmosphere of the entire campus of the hostel is conducive to the establishment of a true academic community with full opportunity for social, cultural, and intellectual development Every assistance is given to the individual student to adjust himself effectively to all the aspects of college and community living. He is made to learn how to develop group life in the hostel so that he has a feeling of belongingness and sharing as in a family. To sharpen the intellectual, analytical, cultural, and organizational skills of the students. The hostel is abuzz with activities throughout the year. To foster solidarity and a feeling of oneness among hostellers. The wardens welcome the residents of the hostel with an informal ice-breaking session. Beginning with a ‘haven’ to herald the new session, activities like Freshers’ Nite, talents search contest, inter-hostel quizzes declamation contest, in–house discussions on varied topics, personality development seminars, Diwali, lohri celebrations, etc. are held throughout the year. The Principal and the chief warden regularly hold interactive sessions with hostel residents providing them with an opportunity to give valuable suggestions and feedback.

The college has developed a new concept of Smart Class Rooms, which facilitate teaching by providing the latest interactive technology. Such steps help to create a professional environment by using the latest audio-visual aids like interactive meeting pads/boards, Bluetooth, light touch pen, digital visualizer, DLP multimedia kits, and high-resolution digital presenter UF-80 DX / ST.

College Library is serving as the Knowledge Centre for all the departments of the college. It provides the facility of two reading halls and also an outer section hall for its readers for consulting personal books. The functions of the library are automated with integrated ERP software named Campus Analyzer. Book exhibitions in different disciplines are held on the college campus to enable teachers to select different titles to be purchased. These exhibitions are held every year and the latest books by reputed publishers are arranged for this purpose.

Keeping in view the changing trends, a digital library has been established to access electronic resources and Internet services. The digital section of the library is equipped with 48 computers. For smooth and speedy Internet access, it has been connected with the 10mbps Ieased line connection. The library is a member of the INFLIBNET N-List Programme through which it provides access to about 4,000 e-journals and more than 80,000 e-books from different reputed publishers. The Jaws screen reading software for facilitating visually impaired students has been installed on two computers.

Multipurpose auditorium having a sitting capacity of 850 students, audio-visual facility, state-of-the-art badminton courts, centrally air-conditioned, fully Computerized Curtain System, and four ante-rooms.

The ‘Seminar Hall’ is Fully air-conditioned with a seating capacity of 150 persons. The seminar hall is extensively used for conducting various seminars, workshops, symposia, guest lectures, panel discussions, etc.

The college has a Medical Room on its campus. Two part-time doctors regularly visit the college to conduct preliminary medical check-ups and to provide medical aid to the students. The college also has Mutual Staff Medical Benefits Scheme for its employees. All the teachers and students are insured under LIC by the college.

Sports are an integral part of any educational institute and our college to strives hard to offer a healthy and conducive environment to all its sports persons. The college has adequate facilities for budding players. It has well-maintained playgrounds for almost all major games. The sports persons are given incentives such as fee ships, scholarships, personal sports equipment, free diet, and various awards. In addition to the freeships, free boarding-lodging, and sports kits provided by the college, the sports persons also get diet money and fee concession from the Sports Department of the Chandigarh Administration. They also get scholarships from UT Administration and PU Sports Department based on their performance in various camps.

Scholarships

The college provides scholarships and concessions to deserving students of the institution. These efforts not only help and reward deserving students but also inculcate in them a drive to perform better. The meritorious and financially weak students are helped through these scholarships and concessions which amount to a tune of Rs. 20,00,000/-. The book bank initiative, started by the college, aims at providing help to deserving candidates. Scholarships are given to the top 10 position holders in the Panjab University annual examination system. An application to the Principal at the time of admission is necessary if a student wants to be considered for the concessions. The institution with the assistance of the Chandigarh Administration to provides half (tuition) fee concession to the students in case two children (brothers/sisters) of the same parents are enrolled simultaneously in the college.

Placements

A very dynamic and vibrant placement cell has been established on the campus, to facilitate the placement of college students (from the general/vocational/professional streams) as well as for the students of other colleges in the region. The cell works in close coordination with the student placement coordinators of various disciplines. Year after year, the placements at SD College keep getting better and better. The Placement Cell not only maintains constant contact with distinguished corporations and industrial enterprises but also efficiently delineates the opportunities according to the precise strengths and attributes of the Graduates and Post Graduates passing out of college.
