The Govt. Industrial Training Institute, Chandigarh was set up in 1962 in the erstwhile state of joint Punjab with a modest motive to supply trained manpower in areas of mechanical, electrical, electronics, and automobile engineering for meeting the requirements of the local industry. Training is also imparted in non-engineering areas of Stenography and sewing. The Institute has over the years developed into one of the best ITIs in the region with excellent training being imparted in electronics/Electrical/ mechanical areas.

Facilities and Infrastructure

Library:

There are about 2300 books in the library of this institute at present. It has Reference books like Dictionaries, New Encyclopaedia Britannica in 32 volumes, Dewey Decimal Classification (DDC) Scheme, Machinery handbook, Gazetteer of India, Year-Books, Institute’s Training Manual, etc. It has textbooks published by NIMI, Chennai approved by DGET, Ministry of Labour, New Delhi on different trades of ITI including General Carpenter, COPA, Sewing Technology, Draughtsman Mechanic and Civil, Electrician, Electronics, Fitter, ICTSM, Machinist, Mechanic Diesel, Mechanic Motor Vehicle, Mechanic Ref. & Air-Conditioning, Tool & Die Maker, Turner, and Welder. The Library is computerized, having an Air-Conditioned facility with 40 seats in a spacious Reading Hall for reticent reading. The library functions from 9 am to 5 pm. Books are issued to students for a week and to staff for a month. Its collection caters to the needs of about 700 members (both faculty & trainees) pursuing training in 21 branches of engineering & non-engineering trades. Books are classified according to DDC. Stock verification is done yearly.

Auditorium:

An Auditorium known as “Multi-Purpose Hall” is very much popular among the students of the Institute, as they can organize several cultural programs, can participate in various competitions, can organize Annual Crafts Exhibition, can arrange Annual Functions, etc. here, as it has the seating capacity of more than 500 students. It has been made fully air-conditioned and an automatic remote-controlled curtain has also been provided for the benefit of the students. Dignitaries from Chandigarh Administration often visit this Institute to preside over the functions and award prizes and certificates to them from time to time.

Labs And Workshops:

Our Institute is equipped with State of the art Infrastructure comprising 12 Computer labs, 5 language labs,  and 6 trade workshops are there in our institute. One exclusive IT/ Computer Lab has been established for imparting training in computers to all the students admitted under Craftsmen Training Scheme at this Institute.

Sports Facilities:

To encourage, motivate and involve every student in Sports, a Sports Committee has been constituted at this Institute to promote Sports activities in the Institute. The students are participating in large numbers to play games during the Sports period. Annual Sports Meet on the Campus is organized in the last week of February every year in which competitions are held and Prizes and Certificates are awarded to the winners. Games like Badminton, Kho- Kho, High Jump, Kabaddi, Hockey, Throw Ball, Athletics, etc. are played. For hostellers, arrangement for playing Indoor Games such as Carom Board, Chess & Badminton, etc. has been made. For the recreation of the students, TV has been provided to watch the news, play, games, pictures, current topics by the students. Yoga exercises are also arranged for the upkeep of the health of the students.

Playgrounds:

The Institute has beautiful playgrounds which are well maintained to enable the students to play various games, such as Kho-Kho, Hockey, Football, Volleyball, Throw-ball, Cricket, Badminton, Kabaddi, and various Athletics, etc. Hostel Superintendent-cum-PTI is supervising the entire sports activities. Friendly matches between various trades are often held and Annual Sports are also organized. The teams who become victorious are awarded prizes and certificates by holding a Sports Meet Function within the Campus.

Placements

The goal of the Training & Placement Cell (TPC) of the Institute is to provide employment opportunities and world-class training to ITI students in leading organizations/Industries. The Training & Placement Cell further provides ample opportunities for the students to develop their personality by conducting programs regularly on communication skills and other soft skills. The Training & Placement Cell of the Institute is very dynamic and proactive and in full coordination with soft skill experts. The Training & Placement Cell is entirely working under the overall supervision of Shri Rajan Dogra, Principal, Govt. Industrial Training Institute for Women, Sector 11-C, Chandigarh. The Training & Placement Cell makes the students Industry-friendly and Industry ready candidates. The Cell is well equipped with ample infrastructure in terms of Seminar Halls, Meeting/Consultancy halls for Pre Placement talks, Presentations, etc. It also arranges training for students in Industries for two to four weeks at the end of the session.
