GKM Institute of Marine Sciences and Technology, Chennai is a premier World Class Marine Sciences and Technology training institution established by Dr G.Kathamuthu, Chairman, of Suganthi Educational Trust with Dr Sujatha Balasubramanian as Chief Executive Officer, Dr K.P.Jagannathan, a high - flying researcher well acquainted with the international education system as the Director, Mr.C. Balasubramanian, a highly competent and well experienced Master Mariner and Marine industry professional, as the Captain Superintendent.

The college is located 5 km off Chennai – Chengalpet national highway. (NH45). The campus is spread over nearly 10 acres of land and is approved by the Directorate General of Shipping, Mumbai. It offers UG and GME programmes.

The college has an effective QMS covering teaching learning and all other supporting activities and is ISO 9001: 2015 certified, by IRQS.

GKMCET offers comprehensive hostel facilities within the college campus which provides a homely atmosphere. The college has a separate magnificent hostel for boys and girls with a hostel warden in each hostel to supervise day-to-day management.

The College makes the best possible efforts to provide the best of services and facilities within the hostels. To make the stay of the students a pleasant one they are constantly involved by organizing various events, activities and celebrations within the hostels.

The Information Centre in GKM College of Engineering and Technology is located at the entrance of the institution and hence easily accessible to all the departments, classrooms and hostel. Central Library was established in the year 1996. Now a new library block is opened which is spacious three floors and fully air-conditioned. It covers an area of 23,468 square feet. It is fully automated, and digitalis with wi-fi enabled information centre. We have accommodation for 500 users at a time. Our institution is an ISO 9001:2008 Certified, CRISIL Rated and NBA Accredited Institution. The books, periodicals and their back volume collections are related to engineering, technical, management and general topics which are available for the use of students and faculty members of our institution.

Our book stock section is located on the first floor in the information centre block. This is a very spacious and very attractive section. We have 32000 volumes of books and 8000 titles, which cover various disciplines like electrical and electronics, electronics and communication, mechanical, computer science, management, civil, marine, aeronautical, science and humanities and the like. This section has prescribed textbooks, and reference books, serving the need of university prescribed curriculum.

A health centre has been set up for the instant service of the students. The doctor visits every day and attends to the needy on campus. A separate vehicle is available to take the sick to the hospitals outside in case of emergency.

United Bank of India ATM facility is available within the college premises for the benefit of students & staff members. It is also beneficial for the people who are residing in the nearby areas.

Fitness is one of the key factors of well-being and we believe in making this an essential part of the lives of our students. Our well-equipped gym is one of the state-of-the-art facilities that we offer to our students. They are constantly encouraged to utilise this facility and build the foundation for a healthy life.
