Gopal Chandra Memorial College of Education was established in 1967 to prepare quality teachers in Science, Humanities, and Commerce. Kolkata is well-known all over India as a historical and religious place of pilgrimage as well as an educational center. The motto of the institution is “Light to Enlighten”. The students are expected to become lights of society to illuminate the world. Institute is situated 19 km. away from the Sealdah Railway Station and 6 km. from Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose International Airport, Dum Dum, Kolkata. This Institute contains spacious buildings, playgrounds, and gardens. It is affiliated to WBUTTEPA University, Kolkata and its courses are recognized by the NCTE, New Delhi.

The College was started with the main objective of qualitative improvement of school education through innovative pre-service and in-service teacher training programs and relevant development and extension activities. This is a Govt. aided Educational Institution under the State Government of West Bengal, India. The College is also listed for grants under the 2(f) & 12(B) scheme of the University Grants Commission and RUSA, Government of India.

The Institute's Library provides a wide range of services and resources to its teachers and students. The Library actively supports the Institute's core activities such as preparing literature reviews, reviewing and writing theses assisting in content preparation for working drafts.

G. C. M. College is well known for its performance and achievements in sports and games. The sports department coordinates the events which help students to perform well in all sports and game events at University. We have outstanding state-of-art facilities to give coaching to students. The psychology laboratories are used to build rooms that allow psychology students to collect data from human participants using the same resources as professional psychologists.
