The Government College, Attingal was started as a Junior College in August 1975. The institution was formally inaugurated on 29/8/1975 by Sri. Vakkom Purushothaman, the then Hon. Minister for Labour. Prof. H. M. Kassim who was initially appointed Special Officer, became the first Principal of the College. With the opening of this college, a long-felt need for this area was fulfilled. The college started functioning with a student strength of 160 in 2 batches of Pre-degree classes of 80 students each. In view of the heavy rush for admission, more batches were sanctioned by the University over the course of time. The Institution was raised to the status of a first grade College in the academic Year 1978-79 with the starting.

Library:

The college has a library facility for all students. Books will not be renewed. But if there is no reservation for a book it may be re-issued after a return. The transferor sub-lending of books taken out on loan from the library is strictly prohibited. Books of reference, illustrated and rare books, and special books and collections will not be lent. Uncataloged and unnumbered books, current numbers of periodicals, etc. shall not be issued to any students or members of the staff. Every person taking a book out of the library and every reader within the library shall be responsible for the safe custody and preservation in good condition of the books lent to him. Borrowers are responsible for loss or damage to books taken out on loan or for consultation by them.

Hostel:

The Ladies Hostel of Govt. College Attingal completed its construction in 2013 and started its functioning on February 2018. It aims to give accommodation to girls coming from all walks of life who are determined to gain a meaningful educational experience. The hostel is located within the premises of the college campus and has easy access to students. It is functioning as per the instructions and rules and regulations of the Directorate of Collegiate Education of the Government of Kerala. It can accommodate 44 students.

Medical:

The college has facilities for providing first aid, medicines for fever, nebulizers for asthma patients, stretchers, wheelchairs, and beds. In case of extreme emergencies, the patient will be taken to the Hospital for treatment and the parents will be duly informed.

Physical Facilities:

The college provides special facilities for differently abled students and persons to provide them opportunities to acquire quality education and to bring them into the mainstream of society. The college has a social responsibility and perception that differently-abled students should be respected and treated as normal human beings.

Ramp/Rails:

The college has a special facility of ramps and rails for the differently abled students. The main entrances and exits clearly identifiable and easily accessible. And it can accommodate wheelchair users. Steps and ramps have hand railings and the entrance permits access to a conveniently located lift.

Scribes for Examination:

There are some students who feel difficult to take the examination and they need scribes with them. The college provides or allows the students to take the help of scribes in the examination.

Faculty: 

The college witnesses a healthy student-staff relationship. The staff is extremely aware of how to teach students so as to get things on their minds forever. They are also very friendly people who are always there for the students.

Placement: 

Our campus offers placement for final-year students but in the case of chemistry students, direct placement has not happened yet the faculties provide good guidance and information about the opportunities. We have more opportunities in the field of polymer industry such as HLL Lifecare Limited, MRF Tyres, Rubber board, CIPET, etc, Many of our seniors were working in good firms.
