The Government College of Art & Craft in Kolkata is one of the oldest Art colleges in India. The Government College of Art and Craft in Kolkata is one of the oldest and most important art training institutes in India. With a tradition going back around 157 years, the university has always been a place of academic excellence. The GCAC is a blended learning venue and is affiliated with the University of Kolkata. The institution currently uses an elective credit system (C.B.CS) for its graduate programs. In 2005, the university also started doctoral studies in the field of fine arts. It is the only art institution in the country to offer a specialty course in Indian-style painting. The institution received an "A" rating from the NAAC Accreditation Committee in 2007. The College is located in the historic Chowringhee district of Kolkata (formerly Kolkata) and is adjacent to the Indian Museum. It extends over 1.58 hectares of grassland.  It is easily accessible by bus, taxi, and subway. The university is a lively place for intellectual and artistic exchange.
