Govt. College of Engineering & Technology (GCET), Jammu was established with the approval of All India Council of Technical Education (AICTE) vide Notification No. : F-18-1/93-AICTE/910 dated: April 30, 1993, and is affiliated with the University of Jammu. The college intake was increased to 300 in 2015 from an initial capacity of 160. GCET Campus is spread over 869 canals of land at Chak Bhalwal, Jammu which is 22 km away from Jammu city. The college was established with a vision to provide valuable resources for industry and society through excellence in technical education and research.

Library has a good collection of more than 3000 documents that fall under three sections i.e. Government. and Book Bank, as well as the TEQIP section. They are currently providing accessibility to IEEE Xplore - All society Periodicals Package (ASPP Online)and Proceedings Order Plans (POP Online) electronic journals and back-file access from 2000. Additionally, there are more than 6000 electronic journals and more than 199500 e-books accessible via the NLIST. The collection includes books, back-volumes of periodicals along with Conference Proceedings.
IT offers training to students from industries for four weeks after the completion of the 6th Semester. The students are trained at famous organizations such as BSNL, RRL Jammu, HCL and many more. The students serve as a conduit for communication with the industries.

It is a close knot structure with a system that communicates information to students at the most rapid speed. Its Training & Placement Cell firmly believes in 'Industry Institute Interaction'. To achieve 'Industry-Institute Interaction', it conducts technical talks and seminars that give the young engineers to meet experts from different industries. It also encourages visits to industries for students in the college. It organizes industrial issues to be solved by students in the course of their studies. It also considers feedback from industry members concerning the development of curriculum or changing it.
