The multidisciplinary Higher Education Institution, Government First Grade College, Vijayanagara was established in the year 1985-86 with only 22 students and has been soaring steadily in all pedagogical spheres to scale the sky. It celebrated its Silver Jubilee in the year 2010-2011. Situated in the heart of the Silicon City of India.

Infrastructure and Facilities

Library:

The Library and Information Centre established in the year 1985 with just 331 books has grown in number and also technically. At present library have more than 60,553 volumes and 24,401 Titles. The library staff, led by Mr. Shambhu Gowda H.C., Librarian. The motto is, "Reading is a wellspring for achievers". A pleasant, inviting area, the library at GFGCVB is a garden of knowledge. The main strength of our department is a fully automated library and also we have a quality collection of resources.  A library is a treasure-house of knowledge and the backbone of a college academic environment. A well-stocked library is an asset to the college. The library is also a boon for poor students who cannot afford to buy books of their interest. The reference section accommodates 50 readers. Students can comfortably read reference books, magazines, periodicals, and newspapers. Back volumes of journals are available. The facility of an “Open Access System” has been introduced whereby the readers have direct access to the cupboards and do the necessary reference. Reprographic and Internet facilities are also available in the library. A computerized circulation counter is made available for the issue, return, and renewal of books. Educational CDs/DVDs on different subjects are available for students' use.

Boys Hostel:

The college has a boys’ hostel facility which provides good hostel accommodation for the students.

Girls Hostel:

The college has a girls' hostel facility which provides good hostel accommodation for the students.

Medical/Hospital:

The college has a health center with a student first aid facility.

Sports:

The college has chess and skipping competitions organized to boost their competency and showcase their sports skills.
