The Govt. Industrial Training Institute was set up in 1962 in the erstwhile state of joint Punjab with a modest motive to supply trained manpower in areas of mechanical, electrical, electronics, and automobile engineering for meeting the requirements of the local industry. Training is also imparted in non-engineering areas of Stenography and sewing. The Institute has over the years developed into one of the best ITIs in the region with excellent training being imparted in electronics/Electrical/ mechanical areas.

There are about 2300 books in the library of this institute at present. It has Reference books like Dictionaries, New Encyclopaedia Britannica in 32 volumes, Dewey Decimal Classification (DDC) Scheme, Machinery handbook, Gazetteer of India, Year-Books, Institute’s Training Manual, etc. It has textbooks published by NIMI, Chennai approved by DGET, Ministry of Labour, New Delhi on different trades of ITI including General Carpenter, COPA, Sewing Technology, Draughtsman Mechanic and Civil, Electrician, Electronics, Fitter, ICTSM, Machinist, Mechanic Diesel, Mechanic Motor Vehicle, Mechanic Ref. & Air-Conditioning, Tool & Die Maker, Turner, and Welder. The Library is computerized, having an Air-Conditioned facility with 40 seats in a spacious Reading Hall for reticent reading. The library functions from 9 am to 5 pm. Books are issued to students for a week and to staff for a month. Its collection caters to the needs of about 700 members (both faculty & trainees) pursuing training in 21 branches of engineering & non-engineering trades. Books are classified according to DDC. Stock verification is done yearly.
Dispensary:The institute has a dispensary on campus to meet the first aid and routine medical requirements of the students free of cost. In the dispensary, consultation is also provided to the members of the faculty and staff of the institute. A Dresser is there to attend to the students, faculty, and staff. The Dispensary is well equipped concerning the availability of basic health-related facilities like a thermometer, sterilizer, autoclave, dressing drum, weight measuring machine, B. P. Apparatus, patient bed, etc.
