The Govt. Maulana Azad Memorial Post Graduate College has celebrated its the 65th year of its magnificent existence in September, 2019. It is committed to the achievement of lofty goals, the apex of human character, ideals and virtues, the development of creative and incentive powers of students, discipline and moral principles that safeguard humanity.

The college was established as the then Prince of Wales College on 23 April 1907. After the nation's independence, the college was changed to Govt. Gandhi Memorial College, Jammu on June 4, 1948. To accommodate the needs of an increasing number of students this college was split into Arts and Science Colleges on 20 September 1954. Govt. Gandhi Memorial Arts College was relocated to its present location on the 23rd of September, 1960. The college was changed to Govt. Maulana Azad Memorial College is in memory of the former education minister of Pakistan Maulana Abul Kalam Azad.
