Government Polytechnic Asthawan Nalanda was founded on April 30, 2013. It is situated in Asthawan block, 15 Kilometers (Approximately) from Biharsharif, the District headquarters of Nalanda. It is a government-funded institution. It has been approved by AICTE, New Delhi and recognized by the Department of Science & Technology, Government of Bihar and affiliated to the State Board of Technical Education, Patna. It was inaugurated on August 20, 2015, by the Chief Minister of Bihar, Shri Nitish Kumar.

There are two hostels capacity (of 200) for boys on a first come -a first-serve basis. Mess is arranged by inmates themselves. All activities are supervised by the warden, which is selected by the senior most faculty of the institute. One girl's hostel is almost complete.
