Government Polytechnic Institute is one of the best institutes in Jharkhand. Government Polytechnic, Ranchi is located in the Tharpakhna district of the newly formed state of Jharkhand. It is centrally located in the capital city of Ranchi. This institution was established in 1974 as the first polytechnic in the undivided state of Bihar, but now it is the premier polytechnic in the state of Jharkhand. The campus of this educational institution is 10 (ten) hectares in size. This college provides necessary facilities like various laboratories, furniture, equipment, a library, etc. to the students. In the beginning, the institution was opened with only two 3-year degree courses; Electronics and communication technology and secretarial and rapid writing. But currently, it offers 3-year degree programs in three fields; Electronics and Communication Technology, Computing, and Electrical Engineering. In the early stages of science, the institute trained many female candidates and many of them are now working in state government, central government, and private and public sectors like radio stations, telecentres, call centers, A.A.I, PandT, Tisco, railway, C.C.L., electricity Deptts, B.S.N.L., etc. The Institute offers the following 3-year courses with the approval of the All India Technical Council. There are 2 hostels with 200 seats next to the institution.
