Government College of Nursing, Thrissur is one of the prime institutions of Nursing Education in Kerala, established in the year 2006 with the twin objective of excellence in Nursing education and manpower development. The college offers BSc Nursing and MSc Nursing programs. The institution is recognized by Indian Nursing Council, Kerala Nurses and Midwives Council and is affiliated to the Kerala University of Health Sciences. The college is recognized as the Research Centre of Kerala University of Health Sciences since 2016. During the current academic year (2021- 2022) 16th batch BSc Nursing and 12th batch MSc Nursing students are admitted.

Academic Block

The College of Nursing is located on 5 acres of land earmarked for the institution within the campus of Govt. Medical College, Thrissur. The college is sufficiently well endowed in terms of physical infrastructure and clinical facilities. The college is functioning in its own building with a built-up area of 57058 Sqfts. The college has an adequate number of classrooms, office rooms, and other physical facilities including well-equipped and furnished laboratories viz-Pre-Clinical Laboratory, Advanced Clinical Nursing Laboratory, Community Health Nursing Laboratory, Maternal and Child Health Nursing Laboratory, Computer Laboratory Audio- Visual Aids Unit, Nutrition, and Dietetics laboratory. The office is fully computerized with a LAN connection and follows an e-filing system.

Library

The college has a well-established library, which is extensive, well-ventilated and spacious with comfortable seating arrangements. There are also internet, Wi-Fi, and e-journal facilities available. The Library of Govt. College of Nursing, Thrissur is an open-access library spread over an area of 4500 Square feets with a seating capacity for more than 125 students at a time. There are a total of 6310 books including reference and complimentary copies of books. The library subscribes to 11 National and 5 International journals and 750 e-journals every year. Proquest and ovid are the databases used in the library. The library is fully automated using open-source integrated library management software KOHA. Books are properly shelved subject/department-wise as per DDC Classification schemes.

Office

Office rooms are well furnished and equipped for the ministerial staff. There is a separate storage facility available for keeping the records and registers. Reprography division is equipped with modern machines- include photostat machines, scanners, printers, computers, paper shredder machines, etc.

Hostel

Hostel facility for girls with 54381 Sq.fts plinth area is present within the campus. Ladies hostel can accommodate 250 students with the dwelling area 50 sq. ft for each student. The hostel is a three-stored building with a spacious nadumuttam suitable for indoor games. Hostel has living rooms, sick rooms, guest rooms, reading rooms and a tailoring unit. Natural resource conservation units like solar paneling, rainwater harvesting, biogas plant, steam cooking, etc. are installed in the hostel.

Transportation:

College of Nursing has its own transport system and the students can avail the facilities. One bus with 46 seats and one omni van with 8 seats are available. Transport facility is extended to both UG & PG students and the staff for attending the clinical facilities, health camps, educational trips and field visits as a part of their academic programs. A garage facility for vehicles is also available.

PTA Store

A store facility was established during the time of COVID pandemic. The stationary items, snacks, xerox, spiral binding facilities etc are available in the store.

Digital Evaluation Services

As per the direction of KUHS, a digital evaluation center is set up in the college to ensure transparency and credibility in the evaluation of answer books for both UG and PG exams.
