Government Polytechnic, Alwar was established in 1960 with Diploma courses in Civil, Mechanical & Electrical Engineering with a students intake capacity of 30 for each course. Thereafter from Diploma in Electronics Engineering was introduced with a students intake capacity of 15 and started in the academic year 1987.
The institute is running under the overall control of the Ministry of Technical Education, Government of Rajasthan, and Directorate of Technical Education Rajasthan, Jodhpur. The courses are affiliated with the Board of Technical Education Rajasthan, Jodhpur.
